Innovation Fund and Licensing Program

I just was looking at the description of the Innovation Fund and read the following….As a bonus, if you are an Insider and your idea has patent protection, you will be automatically entered into our Insider Licensing Program.

Has anyone had luck with getting a license in this type situation? What was your product and who licensed it if you don’t mind sharing.

Does the Innovation Fund have any boundaries or do they accept any inventions?

Thanks guys. You’ve been so helpful in understanding the process.

Frank- I’m in the same boat as you on this…knocked out of the Innovation Fund at R7 but need to know if anything license wise looks promising or not. Have to shop this myself pretty soon as it’s all about the Benjamins! :)

That’s an excellent point, Greg, thanks! I will compose an email to the staff at once to determine their
position on this.

Frank, if you are most interested in EN handling negotiations and other overhead, had you considered forwarding that lead to them? Seems to me the ILP would be about them trying to find companies or incidentally running across companies that would be interested in an idea.

Thank you Jim; that encompasses things pretty well.

I am aware that patented/pending submissions that were X’d in the FUNDS were automatically entered in the ILP, but it was indeed
the experience of our long time Member friend, as well as Scott’s statement 2+ months ago that the Team would be contacting members in the coming weeks, that spawned the initial question “has anyone been selected for the ILP?”
Then (wouldn’t you know it) I get a positive response from a pre-FUND presentation, which put me in a quandary about how to
proceed; I followed my gut however and told them the concept was no longer avaialble.

Hey, I’m not complaining and certainly hope my questions won’t affect my eligibility.

I think what Frank was expecting was maybe an E-mail stating your patented idea did not make the finals in the innovation fund but is in the Edison Nation licensing program and are currently pursuing all avenues at this time. I think what the main problem is, are you in the licening program or not Yes or No !

I think what Frank wants to know is if the EN Team is actively presenting inventions to prospective licensees after the inventions have been X’d out of the running for being developed with monies from the Innovation Fund. Do you know of any specific instances where that has occurred? Another problem may have arisen when a long-time member stated that her invention was X’d from the Innovation Fund, but when she communicated with a member of the EN Team, she was apparently told her invention didn’t merit being included in the Licensing Program! So who makes a final decision in this matter, at what point is that decision made, and what criteria is used in making a decision not to include an invention in the Licensing Program? Perhaps in the special case of the Innovation Fund, feedback could be included at R5 or above as to whether or not licensing agreements will be pursued by EN for that particular invention. This is a new experience for all us and a lot of things are unclear. Frank may understandably be frustrated by the lack of information or confirmation that’s been published to show what’s going on behind the scenes regarding the ILP.

I’m sorry for being unclear, Rich; here’s the deal… while shopping the concept I had a company that was interested last month, but put them off because my first choice is with Edison Nation (ILP). I know we’re allowed to shop our concepts, I guess my fear is that months and opportunities will pass, then find out EN cannot use it, and be left with nothing.

I also fear frustrating the staff with my questions.

Frank,

It’s somewhat unclear as to what ‘specific’ answer for which you are looking. We are doing our best to respond to your inquiries in a timely manner.

Thanks Steven, but a “Live Product Search” and “Insider Licensing Program” are two different things.

Rich’s ‘generic’ reply: “All patented or patent-pending ideas that are submitted to a search are automatically entered into the Insider Licensing Program, provided that the member is an Insider.”

It certainly would be a great day, Fleta!

Two FUND searches have ran their course with many delivered RX’s, but no ILP’s?
You’d think there would have been a few selected for publicity (see, it’s really real) sake if nothing else, or
at least some kind of “Official Update” from the office? A couple months ago Scott said an X isn’t the “end of the
road” and they were going to be notifying people in a couple weeks about participating in the ILP… anticipation/hope grew, but
there’s been no further word.

Jeff,

The prospect of the Insiders Licensing Program sure makes an X in the FUND’s less painful, (I had an R5 months ago) but I

haven’t heard of anyone being picked up in the Licensing Program to date.

Anyone know of any ILP recipients?
