According to James Dyson, the inventor of the Dyson vacuum cleaner, he produced over 5,000 prototypes over a 15 year period before perfecting his product. Really? That’s 2.7 prototypes each and every day, seven days a week, for fifteen years. Me thinks this guy exaggerates just a bit too much., or at least he has a significantly different definition of “prototype” than most inventors.
Changing a screw from flat head to Phillips head doesn’t constitute a separate prototype.

Remember someone telling Lincoln that Grant drank too much, and Lincoln told them to find out what Grant drinks and send a case to each of his other generals?
Same deal here. Whether Dyson is an excessive prototyper, or just an exaggerator, it works for him.

I with ya Eric. A step further shows he worked 43800 man hours at 8 hours a day. How much does his vacuum cost? LOL

My math is different… 5000 prototypes / (365 days x 15 years) = 0.91 …less than one per day. That doesn’t seem outrages, especially when you are working with others.
