Any thoughts on Protosew for clothing prototypes?

Hi All!
I’m new to all this. Looking to get some of my women’s Halloween costume designs manufactured. Anyone have any new info about “Protosew”…good, bad, etc? Also looking to see if anyone has had any experience working with clothing manufacturers (either in the USA or China) that does small runs?
Thanks!

Heather, I have 2 industrial machines, I make leather handbags for a hobby.

Julie, depending on the design, you could be right about how the boning is inserted, I would not know unless I had pictures/instructions/description/whatever…

Heather, couldn’t the boning be inserted into channels? I never saw any boning which actually had stitches through it.

Samantha-
The problem is is there is boning involved, so I think that a regular sewing machine may not do it… or so I’ve heard???

There is an inventors trip to China this year: if you want the information, let me know.

This is what I would do: make a list of all the contract sewing companies within 100 miles (or whatever you choose). I would then go down the list and contact as many as needed to see if they do small runs and if they don’t, I would ask if they knew of someone who isn’t currently working and who would consider doing piece work at home. The first 1000 pillowcases were made by women with equipment at home although I had contracted with a large sewing company and thought that all the work would be done in-house. I no longer accept home-sewing but only because I’m a control freak and tend to make surprise visits to the manufacturer.

Heather – I’m pretty good with a sewing machine, if you need a prototype (VIA sewing machine), maybe I can help. Of course I’ll sign a NDA first. If there is anyway that I can make what you need, I’d be glad to help, if I can’t, I’ll let you know and not waste your time.

Michele- I’d love to hear if you find out anything. I had an undergarment idea years ago (bridal) and could never get it complete! I could not find anyone to help me make a prototype! So sad :(

Hi,
Thanks for your reply! Yes, I did see the comments on Protosew, but I was looking for any new comments, since that thread was older. I should’ve been clearer in my post.

I’m located in Pittsburgh, PA.

I’m looking into a trip to China next year, but would prefer to find a manufacturer in the USA.

THanks much.

I used the little green search button above and found this: http://www.edisonnation.com/forums/prototyping/...
Or, you already knew this much and just wanted an update?

Can’t tell where you are located – would be easier to guide you if I knew.
