Hey everybody,
I just found this program (its still in the early stages of development, so it still has some bugs). Its called 123D and it is made by AutoDesk, the same company that makes AutoCAD and AutoDesk Inventor. I’ve played around with it a little bit and it seems to be similar to Google Sketchup, but with a different interface and the ability to make 2D drawings, which I think is a big deal. Its pointless to have a 3D model an no 2D drawings to be able to give to a machine shop or mold maker.
Best of all, its free! Its designed for hobbyists and “makers” that want to design things and make them at home or wherever and its designed to work well with 3D printers that are becoming more common. I think it can import Sketchup files and export into all the most common used formats so that others can open and use your drawings when you’re done.
Thought this might be useful for someone trying to design and make your own prototypes.
Edit: I can’t post links :( … but you can find the program by going to 123dapp . com
Cheers!
