Need help with a prototype piece for a wheelchair accessory I am working on. Does anyone here have a way to fabricate something out of sheet metal? Pretty simple stuff.

I am in need of a 10" diameter ring…the wall needs to be 1.5 inches wide , leaving a 7 inch opening from inner wall to inner wall….
I do not mind paying for this…
My apologies if this is breaking any rules…just need this one part.
Thanks!

Greg
Just figured it out! We are friends now. My husband will email you later after work with the information. FYI if you click on dashboard under your profile on the right hand side it will say, site activity/friends. Click on friends and all your friend request are under there. Click on persons name and then it will ask if you want to add them or not. Mine said the same thing as yours did but your request came through?? Anyways, I hope he can help you out. I make him cut stuff for me all the time..Good Luck

Greg just got home from work and read your post to my husband over phone. He knows now what you need. Will have the information for you when he gets off work today. Send me a friend request and he can email it to you. I really dont know anything about what you are talking about here LOL but I saw on Topics “Metal Help” and thats my husbands department there. Better he emails you than me getting anything screwed up.

Your probably looking for like 1/32" that’s .03125 of an inch. If your going to go with aluminum you’d probably want it around 3/64" or .0469 of an inch. Is the thickness a critical dimension?

Thanks Denise!….I do not have an exact thickness….anywhere along the lines of the metal fabricated duct work you see in HVAC installations….basically, if you hold one side of the ring, just thick enough so the other side of the ring remains at the same height – no sag. If he works in aluminum, something like a 040 used in standing seam roof panels should be more than enough.
Thanks again!

Hello Greg. I hope you dont mind but my husband works at Clinton Aluminum Acquisition here in Ohio and I passed along to him minutes ago what you were looking for. He has been with company over 23yrs as a supervisor. His question is, how thick do you need this pc to be? Once I have that information he can give me a quote to pass along to you or you can just talk to him.. Hope this helps…

If I were you, I’d google Water jet services in your area. Any small shop with a water jet would be more than glad to cut you out some rings. The way most shops do the pricing for such jobs is they charge you for the amount of material used( in your case 10″×10″) which should only be a few bucks and then they charge you by the inch of cut. I think the last shop I dealt with was like 25 cents an inch( I think even a little cheaper than that) so for what your looking for should be simple and quick for them to turn out. You could probably even have it in hand by the next day. Hope this helps

John,
along the lines of HVAC fabricated duct work…..not sure what that standard is….but ideally just a tad bit thicker than that….if you hold one side of the ring parallel to the floor, the other side of the ring should not droop or hang lower than the side you are holding- if that makes any sense. Thanks John!
