I need a custom made water valve for a prototype. This is the piece that I need to make the assembling of a bathroom faucet . It has been holding me up now for two years. I need a manufacturer or a spcialist in valves. Manufacturers are owned by big name companies. They want me to sign their NDA, which leaves me out in the cold. Some say it is imposible unless I go to China!
I think their is more than one way to skin a cat. Do I need an engineer?
Does he have to have manufacture facilities to make a water valve? Help someone. There are many water valves on the market for sale by pumbing distributors, but I need one tweeked.
Any guidence would be ablessing at this point.
Thank you.
Gladys

There are many prototype makers and I would suggest starting there. Maybe someone can give you a lead: I know that they advertise in the Inventors Digest magazine and I’m not sure if I would trust anyone that I.D. didn’t trust.

Good luck…

Gladys, if the valve is for your prototype cant you modify one from different parts. Be creative, find some old time plumber to help. Look at the links below there all USA manufacturing companys, maybe you tried them already

Gladys, you might also consider talking with local mechanical engineers to see if your idea is technically feasible and more importantly could such a thing be mass produced. The engineers should be listed in your phone book. You can call them and ask if they have experience in faucet designs and valves associated with faucets. Do not tell them what your idea is over the phone. If you find a local one has relevant faucet experience, find out what their hourly rate is and decide if you want to meet with them. If you meet with one, be sure to have them sign your NDA first before telling them about your idea. Most will sign unless they are working on similar products. Be prepared to answer their initial question over the phone about what your idea is without telling them what is unique about your product.

Going this route is really for hands on type folks who are curious about how things work. If this is not for you, a prototype developer should be able to help, but I would get multiple quotes and ask about their faucet background first. Best of luck.

Thank you Julie, but I want to do it myself. I am a hands on type of designer.

Thanks Gizmo, I have approched a few of thies companies and I am waiting for there feed back.

Sir ED, I also tried Thomasnet, a little confusing, but still awaiting some feedback.

dond, I am going to try this now. I had thought to look for a plubing engineer, but I guess a mechanical
engineer might be of help.

Thanks people, I do check out your suggestions.

Hi Glayds,

I have an Australia friend who is an engineer. He used to work for a water products company (Davey Water Products in case you want to look them up). He worked on their pump systems (incl. valves) and I think he would be able to help you with your design. He’s also come back from working in China recently so if you wanted to go down the manufacturing path in China he would also be able to help you out with that.

If you have skype I can give you his details over that (my skype is: sarah.ann.van.der.waal) or accept my friend request and I can send via that.

Hope everything goes well.

I might be able to help you manufacture a prototype. My hobby is metal working/machining.
