I just sent this out via our newsletter but wanted to make sure that everybody heard the good news on Gyro Bowl and doesn’t miss the opportunity to follow in Brad & Melinda Shepard’s footsteps.
- Matt
First, Michael Diep’s Emery Cat took over televisions nationwide. Emery Cat is now available in every retail store you can imagine from PetSmart to Bed Bath & Beyond to Target to Walgreens — even Best Buy. You know you’ve struck gold when electronics retailers start selling your pet product!
Our second ASOTV home run joined Michael’s Emery Cat last year. Mister Steamy, from inventors Will Howe and Ric Payne, shot to the top of the ASOTV charts. Following the proven success on television, Mister Steamy entered America’s hearts and minds — and more importantly store shelves everywhere. There isn’t a mass retailer in the country that doesn’t sell Will and Ric’s superstar product.
We are pleased to announce that a third home run product has joined the Edison Nation ASOTV all-stars. Brad and Melinda Shepard’s Gyro Bowl may be the largest success yet! Our initial ASOTV tests were so strong that we believe we’ve cracked the code to success in the elusive direct response television category. Gyro Bowl is rolling out in a big way in four countries as you read this. Our current media budget for Gyro Bowl in the USA alone is an astonishing $800,000 per month! We have 11 more countries lined up and ready to launch the product as soon as we give the word, making the Gyro Bowl an overnight success in 15 countries around the world. Look for the Gyro Bowl to join Emery Cat and Mister Steamy on retail shelves everywhere by the third quarter of this year!
Are you ready to join the ranks of Michael, Will, Ric, Brad & Melinda? We’ve rolled out the red carpet for you and have invited you to join in on their success with our proven ASOTV platform and strategy.
Your time is running out, though! The As Seen on TV Live Product Search closes this Monday at midnight (PST). We know you’ve got the next great ASOTV idea in you. Take a few minutes this weekend to brainstorm and submit your great ideas to our Search. We fully intend to dominate this industry for the forseeable future and we need your great ideas to keep it up!

Barry they are a big help with about everything except that…the main reason being they can’t advise you about their contract because if God forbid some legal action between you and them happened, now it is muddied up by a you said I said thing. Any of the regulars here are here because we are content with it. That does not make it right for everyone, however, but in a nutshell, here’s my take as easy and straightforward as I can make it:
Generally, you submit your idea. It does not constitute public disclosure. You pay them the approx $25. If EN or their “sponsor” (someone that hired EN to “find” a particular product for them) decides to “take your idea to market” you get half the NET proceeds for 20 years. They do own the product, but you are recognized on the patent as inventor or co-inventor. The chances are they will modify it some (or a lot) but either way you get half. You do nothing more. They design, market, license, TM, Copyright, Patent, everything (or license it to someone else to do those things). In any case you get half. SImple. Whether it’s a % of sales or royalties, or? you get half for 20 years.
Jump in the water’s fine. This institution didn’t MAKE all these people crazy, we arrived at EN’s doorstep like this.

Way to go Brad and EE!!
Ummm… wonder why Japanese children weren’t used?
Thanks Betsy and Toni. Our kids cracked up when they saw the Japanese commercial. I can only understand ‘gyro bowl’ and ’ pudding’ but we love the commercial. The EN team continues to amaze us.

Sweet…loved the music! Well done everyone. Way to go Brad and Melinda!

Unbelievable!!!!!!! I love the announcer’s voice and the fact that all the kids are now speaking Japanese! How awesome!!!!! How many other countries is it in? Congrats EN and Brad and Melinda!

I’m down for a trip to Australia! I lived there for six months 15 years ago and have only managed to get back once since.
Good question about foreign-speaking countries. We’ll let each of our partners in each region lead the way on that since they’re experts at marketing to their regions. However, I imagine that since it translates well, it will most likely be displayed in English with “subtitles” below it in the native tongue. There’s a certain cache to American products overseas that they probably won’t want to lose.
Wow!!! I think that definitely calls for a trip to Australia! Hey Matt, if it’s being sold in other foreign speaking countries—-will it have a different name?

More big Gyro Bowl news! It’s the featured kids product in all Target stores in Australia this week.

Toni couldn’t have said it any better….I agree! BTW, you were the very first EN member to ever friend me….I will always remember that Mary! Thanks for your kind words!!!! :-)
Hi Mary, we are so excited too. It is so exciting just thinking that we will have our product on store shelves.
Good Luck to you too Mary.
Its all very exciting and I can’t wait to see your products Betsy and Toni

Wow, Gyro Bowl is EVERYWHERE! I was checking my email on AOL, and there at the bottom of my emails was a BIG ad for Gyro Bowl.THEN as I was writing an email——-AGAIN another ad for Gyro bowl….complete with the ‘click here’ to order button! Great Marketing! It’s all over the Internet, and now I’m happy to say it’s invading my email section!!!! Way to go!!!!!

Thanks little WhiteHardt!!!!

I would like to get at least two of everything produced by those who frequent these forums; one to use and one for a keepsake. Already have a few items in the collection and WILL BE adding more soon I hope! (winks to Betsy & Jane)
Back at ya GF!!!! Can’t wait to see what they’re doing with BOTH of yours!!! :-)
Gave 2 gyro bowls to my nieces yesterday. I couldn’t be there for their party so I gave them to my brother to deliver to the girls. I pulled one out to show him because he said he hadn’t seen them before. His jaw literally dropped! He said they were amazing… and they are!
Betsy, I can’t wait to see what they are up to with your product!!
Wouldn’t that be soooooo cool if it was?!!!!!! I don’t know where or when they’re doing the testing—-but it’s really exciting.
BUT….there won’t be a big reveal if it doesn’t make it. Lots of products are tested, but there aren’t too many Emery Cats, Mister Steamys or Gyro Bowls. So we’ll see…….but I am thrilled just to know EN is working SO much on my behalf. It’s amazing! :-)
Hey Betsy…I saw a new DRTV Infomercial this weekend for a very clever product. I wondered if it’s yours! Can’t wait until the BIG reveal. I’m so excited for you! :-)
Can’t talk yet! But, what EN is doing is truly remarkable!!!!! :-)
Hey Betsy! Long time no talk! Are you in the commercial phase? Can you tell us yet!!??
Hey Katrina, sorry I couldn’t answer you sooner….my computer wouldn’t let me post on the forums for some reason. But, I figured out a way to sign into the forums another way——so here I am again. Anyway, if my idea, or anyone elses’ ASOTV idea doesn’t make it thru the Infomercial testing phase——then everything is handed over to the Inventor. We get the protoypes, the Infomercial, the rights to the trademark, patent, etc. Not too shabby for a $20 or $25 dollar submission fee!

Thank you Junie,, I made a slight change, but I didn’t know to put Update,, might just leave it at this point. The idea I had (which is at 3 now) – seems to be similar to something that came out recently – and is now being sold by ASOTV.
Betsy, yes it is addictive. If your idea doesn’t make it, do you do anything further with it? I have a bunch of ideas, but, never really did anything with them until EN -EE. I would love to actually go ahead once they are not selected and try to create one. One of my ideas (mentioned above to Junie) someone else also thought of and is now selling them. I think if I had run with it back then, my product would have sold.
Yes, congratulations to the Inventors mentioned above… You girls and guys keep us all going and hoping for a success soon to come. You deserve the best!
I contacted Kelly about this. If it is a change that you want to make them aware of, you should put Update in the title and description. Hope this helps.
Katrina—-I think I’m in a creative slump right now. But, I am lucky to have one ASOTV win that EN is working on and doing a WONDERFUL job with!!! But I have had my share of R4s, R5s and even R8s. Good luck on your submissions—-it IS addicting and lots of fun! :-)
Thank you Betsy. I did change a couple words,,, I see you have submitted a few entries – How are you doing with your ideas? I have 3 out there now. Fun to watch and see the progress. Katrina
Great job EE/EN…can’t wait for the next hit!
Katrina, I always make little edit changes. It won’t affect anything!
Hi Matt,
Quick question about the ASOTV search. I submitted an idea to this last ASOTV – and I am at stage three. My question is; can I change/edit my wording at this point without changing my stage/status? I only need to change a couple words, but, rather not if it will affect anything. Thank you.
