finding distributors contact info?

I am Patent Pending with a Garden gadget that is ready to market… yet I am getting stuck finding distributors contact info and such.
I have surfed the net for Nursery, Horticulture and Hydro etc. get tons of stores yet I am not interested in selling 50 to a store and having to register as a foreign entity in that state for one store, California is 800 flat profit or not. So hence the distibutor, Register with one person in that state and let them distribute.
I keep finding license agents but they are all crooked according to rip-off report or typing their company name along with complaints or fraud. If someone knows a resource to find these distributors with contact points it would be appreciated. Mine is for Gardening with potted plants. A green idea, helps anyone with a potted plant.

Chris, Eric, Micheal and Roger, Thank you for replying to me. I just got back into town and read your replies. I will do just as you suggested.

Chris
I did send samples to Monrovia (out of Azusa Cali) My challenge is being able to follow up. I get addresses and send a sample Attention Buyer or Buying department, then I am waiting for some reply or response. Don’t know if they get it or is it just sitting with 20 other new products for review?

Micheal,
Thanks for the link I will contact them Monday.

Roger,
Thanks for the leads, will peruse them.

Do any of you know, usual turn around times for these Buyers to get back to someone?

Here is the gadget I am marketing, I have them packaged and bar coded ready to go….
This is the item if you are interested? Go 2 or type plantstay in Google for a 2 minute infomercial

I am moving out of Cali cause of the self employ tax and our Gov. kicked Amazon out… so no affiliate money from my weblog
heading to Florida and was going to market these on Ebay and retail them till I can get a bigger store or a license deal and they can put their name on it or use at as a promo throw in for say Miracle grow? They are about 2.49 a piece retail and would cost the consumer 3.00 bucks jsut for the material alone at say homedepot, before bending or fabricating the galvanized wire. Any suggestions on the ebay route?
I do not have an Int’l patent only patent pending in USA. I noticed most garden gadget or supplies come out of the UK, so I was steering away from them till I get a foot in the door sorta speak.

Andrew please don’t hi-jack a thread, send a PM instead, thanks.

Andrew, I have them sign a NDA. I rarely have a PPA and never a non-provisional. I have been licensing products using similar techniques as Roger… good product, knowledge of the market / industry, sales sheet, NDA and professional approach.

I wander the stores and look at who has the biggest presense in the store shelves. Then check out their contact info on the packaging. You can also use hoovers.com or thomasnet.com to help find various companies.

Hi Simon, Is your product something you are making yourself or having made? Are you set up for small runs or larger orders?

If you want to start small but not to small, there is a Distributor in Eugene, Oregon that I supplied for years with one of my products.

http://www.down-to-earth.com/ These guys are just what their name implies “Down To Earth” they are all about green. Good luck!

Eric,
When you ‘pitch’ an idea/product, what type of IP protection do you have? Do you make them sign an NDA or have you filed a PPA? Just curious…
Thanks

Simon, I have found all of my licensees (except Edison Nation) by walking store aisles and looking at manufacturer’s products already on the shelves. I look for manufacturers that are in my product’s catagory or use manufacturing processes or materials that are similar to mine. Between the information on the packaging and the internet, you can find out most of what you need to contact them. I also have great success walking industry tradeshows.

Hi Simon,
The largest distributor of potted plant material here in the US is Monrovia Nursery out of Oregon. They were the first company to use containers to grow plant material.
Hope this helps..
