Looking for a Licensing Agent ~ Works on % of Commission

Caio~ I am new to the process and in need of a Licensing Agent or Company.. I just want to License my idea as it has way too many uses for me to market them all myself. Can anyone introduce me or from experience refer me to one that preferably works on commission.. In reading many many books (especially Stephen Keys ONE SIMPLE IDEA.. love him) and per my attorney.. I am to be looking for an agent who will work off of commission aka a percent in any licensing deals made.. I am told that if an agent wants to make money up front or for an hourly fee, they are a scam and to run for the hills. IF they are wanting a commission based pay, they will have an incentive to do so and are really going to work hard to sell your product. I am patent pending on a viscous matter or cream, liquid based dispenser/applicator.. It can be used anywhere to include Hospitals, Schools, Daycares, Sporting areas, in Emergency situations with animials etc.. and I could go on and on and into great detail with the right person. I am wanting of course to get into Johnson and Johnson, Proctor and Gamble, Purell, Pfizer and such. If anyone can assist me I would greatly appreciate it.. Or if you have advice.. I am all ears.. I am a sponge and a young grashoppah to the right teacher.. Say it I will hear it.. Teach me I will learn.. Show me I will understand.. Gratsi in advance and have a peaceful day!

I dealt with 2 companies, Lambert & Lambert & Docie Marketing. I can say they are both legit & honest companies. However, I didn’t find them particularly helpful. In the case of Lambert, the evauation paid for is done using a template or boilerplate. As my product was a niche product that probably did not fit many categories, it did not progress any further. With Docie Marketing, the process is staged so you pay at stages, the initial stage was positive but got too expensive for me to pursue & they did not seem overly enthusiastic about the product so I abandoned that route. I have submitted to EN, G5 so far!

I have another invention I have emailed Roger Brown about. I will let you know how that goes as he does get a lot of positive comments on EN – must be a good thing, right?

Tamela,
I have dealt with those who I have paid up front and they did not preform. I dealt with someone for on a commision only basis who tied my company up for six months, to find out he could not do what he said. Let me know what you find.

Tamela, I don’t think they exist. Do they? Maybe. I only know of some agents in toys & games.

P & G has this:

Hi Tamela,
You may want to try contacting Evergreen IP. They handle product submissions for Clorox Companies. In addition to the regulart consumer product line Clorox has, they have a “Clorox Commercial” division that deals w/ Health Care, Cleaning and Food Service as well. There is no fee to submit to them and they are very fast to respond and give you explanations behind their reasoning. My experience with Evergreen was very good. If I remember correctly, they don’t sign NDA’s, but since you are patent pending I would think you would be fine.

Also, just my 2 cents about something in your post…there do seem to be legit agents out there that do charge a fee to review products. I don’t think that if someone charges you for an initial review, that is a scam. Obviously do your due dillegence and research the company/person as much as possible. I know lambert & lambert charges a 1x review fee and from what I have seen they seem to be very reputable (they even advertise in ID). Most toy agents also will charge a 1x fee to review a product.

Welcome Tamela, You might want to read the boards here. You’ll learn a lot. The only agent I know from the boards is Roger Brown. You’ll find lots of informative posts from him on this site. You can even search his name and read them. He also has a web site that I think he mentions somewhere. My husband talked to him and I’ve seen him on the boards here. Nice guy. You can submit your idea to EN which is a legit company. They’ve gotten lots of people’s ideas on to store shelves and they work with big companies. They put certain searches up and you submit to them for a fee. Then the EN team presents the top ideas to that search partner and if they select yours…you get a royalty deal. So do a bunch of reading..that’s just a brief bit.
Stephanie
