Hi All,
Just got an email from Inventors Digest about a 2-day boot camp on how to sell to QVC. The email said:

Have a product that’s perfect for home shopping channels like QVC
and HSN? Could you benefit from zero-cost, cutting-edge viral
marketing strategies?

Nick Romer, award winning inventor, bestselling author and one of
QVC’s longest-running guest personalities is presenting a two-day
boot camp to help you get your product on home shopping channels.

He’ll also be sharing time-tested blueprints and strategies he
has used to sell his products in 22 countries, 23,000 stores, and
to create online campaigns that have yielded as high as 96%
returns.

www.MillionsOnQ.com/inventor

The cost of the the boot camp is $2500 and is in New Jersey. Has anyone been to the boot camp? or heard Nick Romer speak?

Thanks,
Dond

Funny you should mention Nick Romer?! 2 days ago I was watching videos at Entrepreneur.com and viewed a 5+ minute interview with him…You can view at the link below….

As far as QVC is concerned…..Unless you have inventory of product,(which could be in the thousands of units) that’s ready to ship to QVC within roughly 10 days from the time they place an order from you, then QVC isn’t something anyone should be seriously considering !?

The course below is offered on Stephen Key’s website and cost approximately $399…I’d spend the $400 before shelling out $2,500 any day of the week…

I’m sorry…but I think that is WAAAAYYY too expensive. There are many people that claim to be experts selling on QVC offering this kind of service for less than half.

I am sure it is worth it if you are a bigger company that can afford. I know you can go to Amilya’s camp for two days of personal one on one advice for $1000 and they can give you leads on QVC.

QVC IS REACHABLE BY ALL OF US! They have casting calls every year, I’ve heard of people walking right in their corporate facilities and getting to pitch to someone, you can submit online too. Edison Nation right here has GREAT exposure to QVC.

Hey…you got an extra 2500 bucks…go for it…you’ll be glad you did I am sure…but I know most of us don’t have that money.

ALSOQVC is not the “glamour deal” all think it is…I can get on there tomorrow…but I won’t make a dime…just get product recognition. the truth is, for a product launch on QVC your best goal is to break even….but you get recognition, exposure.

If you can get your manufacturer to “put up” a few thousand pieces and you want to use QVC as advertising for you, hopefully you break even…advertising can be VERY expensive or even impossible for some launches.

QVC like an infomercial should be treated as an advertisement for a new product. Yes, some…or should I say few… can do much better and make money…if you can negotiate a good cut etc.

QVC can take you to all your dreams…get you into all the retailers from exposure….but beware of the hype that makes people think they are cleaning up on QVC. Air time is EXPENSIVE to cover anyway it comes. Add on their cost of fixing and having the studios…just like a retailers expense…the actual store…QVC can be expensive to operate.

On the other hand…QVC would probably be the best thing I could do for my product…but I’m too cheap and thickheaded. Just realize what QVC really can do for the inventor.

Mark…am I right? Too expensive….all these experts out there…just because they got a few products to market . Yes there are some…and some that truly want to help…but most landed their one lucky shot like we all can.

I do like Amilya’s operations though because the woman can get you into EVERYWHERE and will help you from the heart and a seminar with her company for two days is $1000 for one on one personal advice as well as a group sitting. That’s fair…but $2500???? I’ll buy the guy’s book for 10 bucks…no…get it for free at the library.

Sorry man…I got friends here that I want to see succeed. I’ll call it as I see it.

You wanna get on QVC…fly here to see me…we’ll storm the front doors of their facilities like a friend of mine did. There…I’m a QVC expert too….that advice is worth money…so who reads this…send me $.25.

My manufacturer can afford $2500…they would do well attending this seminar and it would pay off..a name and number can be worth $50,000…but for us little guys….NO….get the advice somewhere else.

Ack!
It’s not spam.
I sent that out for Nick.
I screwed up by putting the wrong person in the “from” line.
A thousand apologies.

I’m not here to debate the cost of the service (we’re writing about a new offering from Doug Hall that will cost $2,000). You should check the testimonials/references of those who’ve used the service to determine the value.

Again, sorry for any confusion this may have caused.
Best,
Mike

I would have to agree that $2,500. is excessive, combined with travel expences…wow! If I had the $$ to spend, I would first choose things off my “must have” list…like a great computer graphic setup, Stephen Key’s program and Kim Babjak’s…Certainly I would get more bang for my buck!

A have approached a manufacturer with an idea I thought would specifically fit QVC’s customer base…he was interested, but reqiured $$ to pay for raw materials and costs, he tried to recommend China to save $$, but I shelved the idea due to limited funds.

If this guy really thought about it first, he would only have to sale 1,000 “How to” books at $25 each to equal 1 admittion fee of $2,500 for his "how to bootcamp! "Maybe he should rethink this one!

I think QVC is a great oppportunty if the shoe fits…You do not have to pay so much to find out about them…they do have product searches also. I once booked a flight to Texas, they called and said they were interested in the idea but I had to have the product ready…I cancelled the flight :(

I can tell you that I feel it is too expensive as well! I have sold both QVC and HSN and although I do know it takes skill and knowledge regrading this channel of selling, this course should be half the price at least and then it could be a great value. By comparison, I will be hosting a two day seminar with industry experts for inventors and start ups in MIami in Oct and my event is a fraction of this event and I will have nearly a dozen experts including patent agents, sales and marketing pros, etc doing workshops and talks. We will teach people how to sell to ALL retailers not just QVC so this is why I feel, especially in the current economic climate, that this course is just too pricey!

Spam or not, when I clicked on that link, the web page it took me to had such processor-intensive scripts that my screen froze for a few seconds. I don’t know if it uploaded any malware or not, but it sure made me suspiscious! I personally will not be visiting that page again.

We attended the inventors product day at the MALL of AMERICA, many years ago. They turned us down. Yet a famous sales person took OUR PRODUCT to them months later, they not only wanted the product they wanted it for the “Today’s Special Value” The celebrity did not sign-up for the Value of the day but they sold thousands during the DAY.
What we have decided to do, is to launched our product with a commercial then QVC can come to us.
I have been told by others that they do use QVC as a product recognition advertisement. They sell more in the Retail stores when they air on QVC. Some products are an exclusive with QVC or HSN & don’t have that opportunity.

Hi all,

Well it is 9 months later and I felt I had to respond to all of the naysayers, re: “it is a bad economy,” “$2,500 is too much” etc.

Well, I signed up for Nick’s Bootcamp last January and it is the best thing I have ever done!

I took my thin wallets (www.savvycaddy.com) onto QVC last month and did fantastically. I anticipate returning in 2010. I can tell you that QVC IS a great launch pad for a new product. And there are some misstatements in some of the above postings that imply that QVC charges you for the air time (they do not) etc.

It does take a LOT of hard work. You DO have to have a product that is ready to be shipped and sold and it has to be a good product. But this is true of any marketing for any new product. It takes a lot of planning, perseverence to make it happen. But, for a good product with a good presentation, the $$/minute can be very good.

One caveat: there certainly is risk. Simply getting to go on air at QVC is no guarantee that your product will sell well. You need to have a back up plan in case most of that inventory comes back to you.
