Thanks for the feedback. I really liked the candle, but the person in charge of that trip and who had the money to invest did not. There were safety issues, as it did shoot off a big flame at first; however, last I heard, they were selling well in Europe, so it is only a matter of time before they are here.

Hey Eric, Great book!
That whole Telebrands thing blew me away, unbelievable…
What ever happened to the flaming candle idea from China?

Couldn’t agree more Greg. And since you read my book, you got to see plenty of failed attempts. As far as my blood pressure…well, that is what meds are for.
I really am enjoying all of the kind feedback on here from people who have read it though. Thanks everyone!!

Just finished the book which should indicate my attitude about it (a two day read). I found myself dedicating hours at a time to it.
Betsy recommended it to me back when she spoke at the Houston Inventors Association. Kindle made it easy and cheap too. .99 to upload on my phone. What a deal.
Eric I wonder if your success with this type of endeavor will improve relative to your attempts. I would put my money on one who failed and came back to the task than one who has not failed. That is of course if your blood pressure has normalized.

The thing I loved about Eric’s book is that it’s a true story. It’s pretty amazing the politics involved in taking a product to market. Lots of shady characters. And Eric tells the story in such an honest and humorous way.

Eric I just got a great laugh from your book. I decided to take a break from the rather difficult book I have been reading so I turned to yours and am finding it well done and entertaining along with a pleasant break from the other which is…Adam Smith’s The Wealth of Nations : )

Thanks Silvia…though I didn’t write it to educate others, I did it mostly for some self-therapy. To go through an intense experience, and then write about it a year later is emotionally good.
Scott, I don’t think so. Without a place like EN, taking a new product to the market for the first time is much like shooting in the dark. If you read the book, you’ll see how I likened it to politics—i.e., corrupt on so many levels, and yet so big. Americans spend well over a trillion dollars per year at the retail level, so there are a lot of people with their hands in that pie. And no, I don’t look at products these days, though I have a friend with a cool new line of greeting cards that I’m exploring how to get into the stores this year.
And yes Greg, Medford is a great place…it is at the end of the rainbow.
I just hope Greg and Patricia enjoy the read as much as everyone else seems to have. Thanks everyone!!

Hi everyone. While it has been some time since this thread was going strong, I have received several positive emails over the months from members who read my book that is the subject of this thread. Recently, someone suggested to me that I publish it on Kindle and Nook, and without trying to come across doing a shameless plug, just letting everyone know that it is now available on Kindle for $.99, and Nook in the next few days for the same price. Happy holidays!!

I agree Andrea! Back in the day, being an inventor could be a long, expensive, often lonely and frustrating road. The people on it were driven by a need and a force that was just innate. With a company like EN, the door is open for people in all walks of life to enter in. People can enter ideas for fun, or enter fully developed inventions. This whole thing is so much fun. It is a blast to meet so many ENers and know that when an idea occurs—-there is a place like EN that will consider it.

But, I’m also so lucky to LOVE what I do for a living, and be able to teach students who have that same desire in their eyes that I did when I was their age. To me Eggies is just the icing on the cake.

Betsy, I think that’s what is fun with inventing, most of us “fall” into it by mistake or circumstance, I know I did…once you open your mind to creativity, big things can happen! Enjoy your success and I only hope to get a product out that is as big as Eggies, probably not in this lifetime, but the journey is fun!

It was fun. But the thing that I learned from that crowd of die-hard inventors, is that I haven’t changed at all. Nope, I’m a mom, wife, journalist, teacher….and then only if push comes to shove—-an accidental inventor at best!!!

You all are too,too much! If you were all there…there wouldn’t have been a talk at all—-just the most fun meet, greet and laugh and then laugh some more ever!

Funny thing Fairin about paths…I’ve done lots of talks as a TV journalist—-but now as an inventor, that is pretty wild! That is infact how I started the speech, I said ‘If anyone told me a year and a half ago that I would be invited to speak at an Inventor’s meeting—-I would have thought they were crazy. But then a year and a half ago if someone told me I’d have a product on store shelves, I would have thought they were nuts.’

But it was a fun, fun evening! Toni Rey, Greg and Cathy are a kick! And my husband was still laughing about it today!

At my talk last night at the Houston Inventor’s Association, I brought along my copy of Eric’s book. I told the inventors that I couldn’t put the book down——and it’s a must read for inventors. When I first read it, I kept thinking—-‘Wow, I’m lucky, wow, I’m lucky!’ The whole process of trying to get a product to market on your own can be treacherous! After the meeting, soooooo many inventors came up to me and wrote down the name of the book and author. It’s such an interesting story, full of suspense and deceit!
