Trying to find an "in" in the marketplace

Hello,

We created a new product called a “slēv”. (neoslev.com)

It’s a twist on cooies and koozies in that our product comes with large 30 and 20 ounce tumblers.

After designing and redesigning, we decided to ditch retail and aim for the customized/promotions market.

Our product, born in south Florida is ideal as a souvenir/promotional item for hotels, bars, restaurants, cruise ships, country clubs, businesses wanting to advertise, charities, events…. you get the idea.

I have run across the PPAI ASI stonewall here and there but being neither a supplier nor distributor I really can’t see how I can join either organization. (Promotional products association speak for those who don’t know)

So the product is done… we have targeted the market and we have started the hustle…

Any suggestions anyone could give would be greatly appreciated.

The contact page on the website has my phone number as well.

(Thanks for inviting me, Ron.)

Do you mind if I call you real quick?

I’m not 100% sure what kind of suggestions you’re looking for, but I may have a good one.

Let me know!

Just spoke to your wife. She’s lovely!

Couple ideas…

1. Campus Outfitters in Gainesville, FL. They outfit all of the Greek organizations at UF and also many of the student organizations (AMA, BACC, etc). If they would be willing to put your slev in the store, the “buyers” for those organization would definitely pick up on the product and get it running through campus. And very few things spread as quickly and virally as through the college circuit. If you got it out there, you could easily market through Facebook as well. Having people friend the brand.

2. Stores like EmbroidMe. They offer products throughout the store like Things Remembered that can be customized. There is one located in North Palm Beach that the owner is super sweet.

3. Mom and Pop stores/restaurants/bars. Send them samples or contact their marketing people to see if they’d be interested in the having the slevs as a promo item. Like a local tennis shop or family-owned bar. Places like Jumby Bay in Jupiter, FL or Rum Bar in North Palm Beach, FL could be a good fit.

4. Local marketing groups like Premier in Gainesville, FL. They outsource customizing items for events and groups. Like a Branders.com, only they are face-to-face and semi-local, so a meeting would be much easier to get, even with a President or Owner.

5. Being from South Florida, I would hit marinas or boat shops. People LOVE items that say their boat name. I have bought my mom and dad customized towels, blankets, glasses, hats, you name it!

Whatever you do, make sure when you send these items out that your website it either embroided on the item or there is at least a tag inside that people can find out what the product is. Viral marketing is huge!

Hope this helps :)

  1. is already underway.

we are also going to market to non profits and other charities.

The suggestions above are fantastic. Especially when these companies realize that we can get the product for far less (fully customized) than they can do themselves.

(it helps to be a graphic designer)

we are also going to contact event planners at hotels and convention centers.

We have lots of room to negotiate prices. I really want to stay away from direct retailing but I think I need to offer some basic designs in stock on the website so resellers can gage a “retail price point”.

Thanks again… one day in and I love this site and you peeps.
