I wanted to let everybody know that we’ve made some significant architecture changes to Edison Nation. The results? The site is now significantly faster!
It all started last weekend when the memory on our main Web server started to go bad. As luck would have it, we started having major memory issues while we were trying to launch the online Everyday Edisons casting call (you have submitted some ideas already, right?). It made for a stressful few days and it inspired us to squeeze as much performance as possible out of the code and servers.
We started by quadrupling the memory on our main Web server. We had already been planning on launching the Live Product Search feature and online casting call with a brand new mega-database server so we brought that bad boy online as well.
Things were running quicker but with the huge increase in visitors and members that we were seeing with the new Live Product Search feature, our lead architect and developer still wasn’t happy with the performance.
He spent this weekend optimizing code so that every time you visit a page on the site, you only need to download a fraction of what you were downloading before. Not only did it result in a super-fast connection for you, but it freed up a ton of the Web server resources so everything is operating much more efficiently.
I wanted to let everybody know that we’re committed to keeping Edison Nation running in tip-top shape and wanted to send a special thank you out to our lead developer (Jon) for making such a dramatic improvement in such a short period of time!
Enjoy the (faster) Edison Nation!
Matt
