Hey Guys,
We’re rolling out lots and lots of new changes these days and it looks like one of them is negatively impacting the forums.
Our Web site sends out thousands of automated emails every day – from receipts to sign-up welcome emails to forum update notifications. In the past, we’ve used our own server infrastructure to do that but doing so also meant that we would routinely end up on email spam blacklists because certain systems (ahem, Yahoo) would mistake the volume of email that we were pushing out to be unsolicited, which it isn’t.
So, we’re switching to a third-party service that will mean much higher and faster delivery rates. Best of all, it will keep us off the spam blacklists.
We rolled out all of the new mailers yesterday and it looks like there is a detail in the code that is preventing some tasks from working properly on the site. For instance, if you post to a topic such as the LPS Q&A, one of the subscribers to that topic is on a spam list so the entire mailing is failing. When it fails, the post fails. We should have anticipated that being a potential problem and trapped those errors from preventing you from posting but we didn’t. We’re rolling back those changes now and will be addressing them in the coming days. In the meantime, if you run into any errors when trying to do something such as post to the forums or add a friend, please visit our support site and let us know so we can fix it.
Thank you everybody – and we’re sorry to all of you who took the time to write a post only to find that it shot off into cyberspace when you tried to submit it.
