I wanted to tell you about a new feature we just added to Live Product Search.
If you have any ideas in the database from previous searches, visit your dashboard (http://www.edisonnation.com/account/home) and you will now see a button to “Submit an Existing Idea to This Search” at the bottom of each search. If you have an idea that you have previously submitted to a search and think it might be a good fit for a new search, you can now use this feature to submit your idea to the new search as well. There is no extra charge to do this – submit as many ideas as you would like as long as they are relevant to the search.
A good example: if you submitted a lighting idea to the Spencer’s Novelty & Gag search, you should opt in your idea to the Spencer’s Lighting search as well.
We’ve said in the past that we’ll be searching the entire database for matches to each search and we will continue to do so. This feature ensures that your idea will come up as a match to be considered and it also will add a progress bar to your dashboard for that idea/search combination.

Hey guys,
We had a slight glitch when rolling out this new feature.
Everything should now be good to go.
If you applied an existing idea to a new search within the first 15 minutes after Matt’s post … you may have to do that again.
Sorry for any confusion.

Cheryl, how do I resubmit to the new Spencer’s
search. Do I have to resubmit the whole thing
all over again?

Toni,
Right under the dash board for the new search or the one you want to enter something into there is a ‘bar’ that says submit existing idea. Click that bnar and follow the steps to your idea database and select the idea you want to re-submit.

Toni,
Are you looking under the Spencer’s Lighting Search dashboard?
There will not be a button under the Spencer’s serch because that is closed, but there should be one under the lighting search.

Matt, Cheryl, or Toni,
I am unable to transfer my database idea into the West Point Home search. I followed Cheryl’s instructions to Toni. I clicked the Bar under the dashboard that says, submit existing idea. I then clicked the bar that states the title of my database invention. Then I clicked the submit button. This just brought me back to the home page. My questions is this, do I need to retype the whole database idea in order to resubmit it to the West Point Home contest? Please help!

Thank you anyway Toni,
It’s quite all right. I have very minimal computer skills, so there is good chance that I am probably doing something wrong. Hopefully someone will come to my rescue. I will check back later. Meanwhile, I think I will view the new episode.

If you were having an issue with submitting an idea… please try yet again :) We apologize for the inconvenience.
After you opt-in a new idea, you should see a new progression of stages that will allow you to track your idea. If you do not see a progression, please email us at team@edisonnation.com.

Help.
I thought Submitting an existing ideal to this “new” search was at no cost ??? This is according to Matt’s first entry at the top of this page. Please tell me if I am missing something because when I went to re-enter my ideal, it stated a $25.00 fee.

Matt;
What about T F’s issue with the $25. fee being asked for again? I have not actually used this feature yet, I am just wondering if when I do I will be asked to pay the $25. again?

TF,
You may submit previously submitted ideas to any search at any time at no charge. However, if you haven’t submitted an idea through Edison Nation, it does cost $25 to submit it the first time. I was not referring to a particular search but all searches. It sounds like you may have thought I was referring to a particular search or that you were trying to submit an idea that didn’t already exist in the database… Or you may have just clicked the wrong button. If you are trying to opt in an idea that you have previously submitted through Edison Nation, make sure you click “Submit an Existing Idea to this Search” rather than “Submit another Idea” or “Have an Idea? Submit It.”
If that doesn’t help, please email team@edisonnation.com and they’ll take good care of you :-)
Cheryl,
It’s three clicks to opt an existing idea into a search and they’re all right on the dashboard. There is never a screen asking for $25 when opting in an existing idea.

Matt, I have read the innovator agreement a few times. Will you let us know if anything changes, so I don’t have to re-read it every time I put in a new entry? thanks.

Gladys, you should also see a little question mark next to those buttons…go ahead and click the question mark for explanation.
“You may opt out any idea from the database at any time unless it is green at stage 7 or greater for a search. If you opt out an idea, it will be removed from all active searches and can not be applied to future searches. If you opt out an idea, you are free to pursue other avenues for commercialization of your idea.”

LOL Gladys… No, we want you to stay right here :-)
We added this feature along with a tweak to the Live Product Search contract for ideas going forward.
The contract now reads like this:
When you submit an idea, you may opt out at any time, provided that it is not at stage 7.
We have some members who have submitted over a hundred ideas. They are working on a couple but rather than let the rest collect dust, they submit them to Edison Nation. When they have more time or funding to pick up on one of their ideas in the database, they may opt out at any point if we haven’t found a good fit for their idea yet and run with it on their own.
That is, if they’re idea isn’t in final consideration for a search (stage 7). If that’s the case, they may not opt out (the term there is 6 months – but if you weren’t selected, we would allow you to opt out as soon as we found out you weren’t selected). We require that stipulation because we can not legally present your ideas to the retailers unless your idea is opted into the system.
We are honoring this new agreement for those of you who already have ideas in the system, too. No more worrying about submitting an idea and “tying it up” for six months. The only ideas that will be “tied up” have a very high likelihood of success with the retailers as they are already at stage 7.
We modified the way all of this works in order to better serve you and based on feedback we’ve received over the last few months. I hope everybody appreciates and finds that this new process better supports your needs and goals – which are the same as ours – to get your products into the hands of retailers and major manufacturers.

How about a function where you can print your submission- for proof-reading. Thanks

How about a function that flags entries that were seen at casting calls and videotaped? Then the people screening the product lists will know they can see a demo. It will also give a slight edge to ideas that have already been through a vetting process.
