Hey Guys and Gals, just wanted to create a place for people to update everyone on their status with the online auditions for Everyday Edisons Season 3 here on Edison Nation.

I have submitted my first invention.

Feel free to post your progress and status so we all can share the experiences together.

So…anyone moving on in the process? or submitting an invention?

I started the process. Dashboard took a little getting used to. First several form pages were easy. I assume most of us already have canned descriptions ready to go, so that was easy. But I reached a point where the forms asked for a 2-minute movie. I’m going to take my time this weekend and do it right. Does anyone know how I can get in touch with Steven Spielberg?

My first idea has passed stage 2 (prescreening) and is awaiting the stage 3 (initial ip review).

Anyone else’s moving?

Maybe they just pick most recent submition first. Or alphabetically. What’s the first letter of your idea, Jason? Mine starts with ‘s’.

I don’t think it’s alphabetically because one of mine starts with a “A”.

Hi there. How long did it take to move along after submitting? It is nerve wracking … and fun at the same time! Best of luck to all.

I just took a look at mine today. It also has made past stage 2 going for 3 hopefully up to stage 6.

Stage 3 and green. If an inventor did his/her homework, and submitted a novel, non-obvious and doable invention; there shouldn’t be any problem up to stage 4. I think the real challenge will come at stage 5.

OK! So I made and edited my video clip. In case it ever gets seen by anyone, the camera put ten pounds on me! It had nothing to do with all the chocolate I’ve been eating:)

The whole family got involved. I put on the lab coat while my 8 year old son and my 4 year old son physically demonstrated the device. It was totally unscripted, but I think it came off pretty well.

2 minutes is not a lot of time. So I made sure to edit it using Pinacle Studio so I could throw in some good still images with good transition effects.

I uploaded everything late last night. So now I’m waiting to see my dashboard change from phase 1 to phase 2. Got my fingers crossed!

I did not submit a novel, but was straight to the point on what my invention can do. Hope I get thru the next stage. It’s exciting waiting for the yellow to turn green.

I don’t thin you NEED a video – if you have one great but if you have a decent illustration and a good idea I am sure it would work.

Jay, a video isn’t required. I didn’t send one and I am also pass stage 3.

Just as long as you have a way to convey your idea, a drawing or really good description should do.

I also made it passed stage 3 – seems wierd that everyone would get this far….doesn’t that defeat the purpose? Anyway, I agree it is still exciting.

What I find weird is that no one has, or has admitted that they haven’t made it past any section.

I still would like to know how the judging here compares to the on site locations. I mean, how can they tell me in 2 minutes and then another in front of the judges presentation whether we’ve made it to final consideration, but it takes weeks here online.

I’m waiting hopefully.

Jason, I have a theory, I think passing stage 5 equal to passing initial panel at real casting call.

The judges at real casting call are experienced and tough. They can instantly make judgment calls that equivalent to pre-screening, marketing search (portion of IP review), R&D review and final consideration. After passed the initial panel, they did a little bit patent search and passed the result to one of final judge and he voted at there. The final voting judge at real casting call is like stage 6, picking 5 winners, at here. You pass them, you are in final consideration.

That’s why I always say the real challenge comes at stage 5. Any real inventor who did his/her homework should have no problem to pass first 4 stages. Don’t you all did patent/marketing search, and thought through the steps to make your idea into product?

Personally, I prefer the online audition. In person (last season), I was nervous, I couldn’t find a wall outlet close enough to the judges very quickly. When I finally found it, there wasn’t enough time to demonstrate the device properly. Still it seemed well received. I got the boot for other reasons having nothing to do with presentation.

In contrast, in this online audition I was able to do several takes while shooting the video, and then choose the best pieces. In the end, I’m quite sure I showed ease-of-use much better than I could have in person. Also, I’m sure I covered the most important points online. I know I missed a few in person.

Finally, I would prefer that the judges spend more time with my invention. At the in-person audition last year, the judges gave my other invention about 4 or 5 minutes of marketability consideration, and maybe 10 to 20 minutes of IP review, and that was it. After that my invention wasn’t even an afterthought. Online is much better; if something doesn’t click today, perhaps they’ll get it tomorrow or the next day. If they look at it a half dozen times, its that many more chances that they’ll find it to be as great as I think it is.

Anyone has result on stage 4?
The earliest one I heard who passed stage 3 was 10 days ago(the 8th). I haven’t heard any news regarding stage 4 since. Why take so long?

I am still between stages 3 and 4 (passed stage 3, but haven’t got a green or red indicator for stage 4).

I’d like to think the longer the better, but not hearing anyone who has gotten a “red light”, it could appear that they are letting/giving everyone a green light, at least till this stage.

If it wasn’t EN and EE conducting the auditions, someone could speculate that it was to give hope to more people and keep the entries coming…but I’m sure EN and EE wouldn’t do that.

I’d like to think that not everyone makes it passed Stage 3 but the only people still on the EN site are the ones who have and now we are getting anxious so we need to talk to each other. People who would get a red light probably just click off the site and don’t come back. :)

Yep, I passed stage 3 also. I wouldn’t count on everyone making it this far……the reason is that a lot of people do not do their research. When an idea is submitted most that are turned down is because that product already exists and the “inventor” was not aware nor did they check.

I just submitted a second entry. While my first was waiting at stage 3, I kinda got bored and thought of another. (Actually, I originally wanted to enter the Ames True Temper Design Contest, but I don’t like their terms.) I’m sure my second entry has no chance. It’ll probably get ruled out immediately on initial IP review. But what the heck … its only $25 to have a team of experts give it the once over!!! How can you go wrong with that?

Quick question for Matt at EE : I realize that you are up to your eyeballs in entries coming in today (last day for submissions), but was curious to know if you could tell us how soon stage 4 (R & D) “green lights” may be awarded? Thanks for your time, Jimmy B
