Hi Everybody!
I wanted to take a minute to apologize for the intermittent downtime we’ve experienced in the last couple of days – especially as it came to a head this afternoon. One of our many servers failed and for some reason the load balancers didn’t do their job as well as they should have, resulting in the site appearing to be down for some of you (the now familiar 500 family of errors).
We’re keeping an eye on the issue and taking steps to keep it from happening in the future.
By the way, if you think it’s been hard on you, imagine what it’s been like on us as we intermittently lost access on our end. We’re going to have to buy the product review team a pizza party to try to make up for it. They’ve been having endless debates over the past few weeks as they narrowed down the best ideas. Everything has been coming together this week and everybody is very happy to be back at work.
I’ll be announcing more details about the Everyday Edisons searches in the next day or two (at the latest!). Due to much larger participation among our staff in reviewing ideas (if your idea is still alive, it has probably been seen by 2-3 times the staff that normally review it!), it’s going to be a little different than normal. Rather than make the final moves one at a time, we’ve got a lot of complex spreadsheets with our internal ratings and reviews and we’ll be doing some mass moves for the last few stages for those of you who have ideas that are still in consideration. It’s not the traditional process but we have pulled out all of the stops in reviewing your ideas and needed to modify the process on the fly this past week. Some of your ideas will still be moved one at a time (for better and worse) but many will also be moved (also for better and worse) in a batch process that we’ll be doing in order to ease the traditionally manual movement process. Look for that process to happen tomorrow or Friday.

Everybody who submitted to an Everyday Edisons casting call search will be moved to finalist (G7) or red at a particular stage :-(
Those, like you, who have submitted to the Open Search will be moved to G7 if selected to come to Charlotte. If your idea is not selected for the show, however, it will not necessarily be moved to red because it is still eligible for the open search.

Hey Matt! I have a question. I know all who summited to specific searches will be getting news by way of green or red in the next few days, but what about those who submitted to the Edison Nation open search before the Jan.12 deadline for EE in hopes of being a cast member of EE? Will we get the check or x regardless, or could we potentially stay green to continue in the open search even though we don’t become one of the EE finalists?

There is only space for so many ideas they can use. Getting Xed never means our ideas are bad, just remember the PET ROCK! It was a money maker. I am glad it will be over soon.

I went crazy when I couldn’t log on before, I was about to pack my bags and head down to Edison HQ. I called the police, fire department, hospitals, and President’s office to make sure you guys were okay. Then I started thinking EN ran away with my billion dollar idea. Whoa, thanks for coming back EN. As for this update good and bad thing. Massive people are going to get red and massive people are going to get green. Wonder where I will end up. Well I had a fun time here with all my fellow inventors, good luck. :)
