BestSweet’s search for the next big, ice cream candy ideas
Deadline: Monday, September 21st, 2009 at 11:59PM Pacific Time (US & Canada)Tell your friends about this opportunity:
Description
Candyholics rejoice! BestSweet, a top confectionary manufacturer, is turning to you for creative, new ideas for products to add to one of their deliciously notable candy brands.
About BestSweet
BestSweet works with leading consumer goods companies – including one of the world’s largest chains of ice cream specialty shops – to develop and create candies that satiate anyone’s sweet tooth. They currently manufacture, market and handle the national sales for the candy version of this leading ice cream brand’s confectionary offerings in a variety of its premium ice cream flavors. In candy aisles across the country, you can scoop up your favorite ice cream flavors in sugar and sugar-free varieties to please any palate on the go.
What BestSweet is looking for:
BestSweet is now turning to our Edison Nation members to find this leading ice cream brand’s next hit candy item that will appeal to the lucrative ‘tween consumer (ages 8-13). For this Live Product Search, BestSweet wants you to think outside the box of established candy varieties, such as Junior Mints® or Milk Duds®, and go beyond the M&Ms® pouch of candy-coated chocolates.
BestSweet is looking for your product concept ideas in sweet new flavors and in any shape or size. Whether its minis or bite-size squares, consider the whole package concept and your buyer. What new candy would grab the hard-to-catch attention of ‘tweens” and teens – and turn the head of BestSweet’s leading ice cream client?
Requirements
For this search, please submit your candy innovations to BestSweet’s Live Product Search. Formulas are not required. While not required, we highly encourage you to submit video of yourself demonstrating a prototype and explaining the features and benefits of your submission. Please be as detailed as possible in telling us about your innovation.
For this Live Product Search, you must note the following:
- Must retail in stores for less than $2.00
- Your candy idea should appeal to a specific audience. For this search, consider what candy would attract the ‘tween consumer (ages 8-13)
- Your idea should fit within a leading ice cream manufacturer’s line of branded candy
- Your idea must be unique and protectable
Each idea costs just $25 (www.edisonnation.com/membership). The cost is $20 for gold members to submit and, as long as you maintain gold membership, your idea may be submitted to as many searches as you would like at no additional cost (www.edisonnation.com/opportunities).
More information about Live Product Searches at Edison Nation
Retailers and manufacturers need innovative products. The problem is they are often hesitant to work with independent idea people like you because they don't have the infrastructure, time or process to pick that one home run from the thousands of good ideas (and bad ones) they receive. Edison Nation has developed a patent-pending screening process through our experience with the television series Everyday Edisons. This allows us to process thousands of ideas each month to match the needs of the retail community, enabling us to find the best ideas to acquire and bring to store shelves through our network of major retailers and manufacturers.
Edison Nation has collaborated with major retailers and manufacturers to help you get your ideas to market.
Here's how Live Product Search works:
- We work with a retailer or manufacturer to identify a market segment that needs innovation and we create the search, including any specific requirements.
- You submit your innovative ideas online through our confidential Live Product Search database (prototypes are great but all we really need is a great idea).
-
If your idea is selected for commercialization by us, you will receive a market-leading annuity from Edison Nation
(how much?)
You will receive an annuity payment for successfully commercialized products of:
- 7.5% of net revenues paid to Edison Nation (if any); plus
- 50% of licensing revenues paid to Edison Nation (if any); plus
- 40% of assignment revenues paid to Edison Nation (if any); plus
- 4% of brand revenues paid to Edison Nation (if any)

Your submission fee helps defray a portion of the actual cost of reviewing each submission.

Each person who submits an idea can follow the progress of their idea through the screening process by watching their Edison Nation dashboard, which has eight stages. To view your dashboard, just visit www.edisonnation.com and click "log in."
- If your product makes it to the eighth or "Success" stage, an Edison Nation team member will contact you shortly thereafter.
- If your product is selected Edison Nation will become the owner and care taker of your intellectual property, in exchange for your $2,500 advance and annual payments. Please see the Edison Nation Innovator Agreement for full details on your relationship with Edison Nation.

No.
Does Edison Nation review ideas outside of the Live Product Searches?

I have just submitted an idea, how long will it take to hear back?
Log into your Edison Nation account and follow your dashboard through the eight review stages. Always keep an eye on your dashboard for the latest updates.
What does "Final Consideration" mean?
This doesn’t guarantee development, but it’s a good thing. Final consideration means one of the nation’s leading manufacturers or retailers is looking at your idea.
What does the red X mean? I had submitted my idea and it stopped with a red X. "What happens if my idea is NOT selected?"
The red X means your idea has not been selected. If your idea is not selected the rights to your idea automatically revert back to you – all you have to do is click "opt out" next to your idea in your Live Product Search database. Of course, it might be a better fit for a different search – especially if you made it to Stage 7 – so you might consider leaving it in the database and giving it another shot.
