An international supplier of power tools with a heritage of innovation, Skil Power Tools is one of the most powerful brands in the industry. Continuing this tradition of innovation, and driven by its parent company Robert Bosch’s credo, “Invented for Life,” Skil is seeking products that help do-it-yourselfers achieve project success in and around the house.
For this search, Skil is interested in product innovations that solve a problem or address an unmet need. Skil will consider submissions for portable electronic power tools, bench top tools or even non-powered tools.

Since its foundation more than 80 years ago following the breakthrough of their signature Skilsaw, Skil Power Tools has developed its singular product focus into a holistic mission to equip today’s growing population of passionate do-it-yourselfers. Skil is part of Robert Bosch’s notable Power Tools division, focusing on quality and innovation within home DIY projects.
Their legendary No. 77 Skilsaw, or “Wormdrive Circular Saw,” is the benchmark of portable electric circular saws and can be found on virtually every construction site in the U.S. It is recognized as one of the main tools that helped build America and shape the construction industry into what it is today.
Skil’s No. 77 circular saw laid the foundation for a product line that now features more than 80 tools that can handle almost any DIY task, enabling users to “Do it right. Do it with Skil.” From circular saws and jigsaws to sanders and drills, Skil tools are found in homes and the workplace, and are designed to bring the convenience, precision and performance pioneered by their first product.
Requirements
Innovations should be geared toward mass market retail rather than niche, and DIY rather than industrial or commercial application or use.
Applications for product submissions should encompass at least one of the following:
• Cutting
• Drilling
• Fastening
• Finishing
• Work support (e.g. tape measures, saw horses and so forth)
While not required, we highly encourage you to submit video of yourself demonstrating a prototype and explaining the features and benefits of your submission. Please be as detailed as possible in telling us about your innovation.
The cost to submit an idea at Edison Nation is just $25 ($20 for gold members). This fee covers Edison Nation’s product screening process.

Why do I have to pay $25?
The first step of each and every submission displays a list of requirements that include the fee for the submission. The submission fee covers a portion of Edison Nation’s operating costs. Each entry will be reviewed by a team of Edison Nation product development and intellectual property experts. Your submission fee helps defray a portion of the actual cost of reviewing each submission.
Can I submit an idea no matter where I am in the world?
Yes, this program is global. We’d like your ideas no matter where you’re located; however, you must be at least 18 years old to submit an idea. Innovators under 18 can submit their ideas through a parent or legal guardian.
If my idea is not selected, will I get my money back?
No. Each entry will be reviewed by a team of product development and intellectual property experts. Your submission fee helps defray a portion of the actual cost of reviewing each submission. If your idea is not selected, you can opt out of the Live Product Search database at Edison Nation and pursue it independently.
If my idea is selected for commercialization, how much will I be paid?
If your idea is selected for commercialization by Edison Nation, you will receive a $2,500 advance payment from Edison Nation and a share of sales for up to 20 years. Please read the Edison Nation Innovator Agreement, which fully outlines the applicable payment terms
When will I know if you want to turn my idea into a product?
Each person who submits an idea can follow the progress of their idea through the screening process by watching their Edison Nation dashboard, which has eight stages. To view your dashboard, just visit www.edisonnation.com and click "log in."
- If your product makes it to the eighth or "Success" stage, an Edison Nation team member will contact you shortly thereafter.

What does "Final Consideration" mean?
This doesn’t guarantee development, but it’s a good thing. Final consideration means one of the nation’s leading manufacturers or retailers is looking at your idea.
What does the red X mean? I had submitted my idea and it stopped with a red X. "What happens if my idea is NOT selected?"
The red X means your idea has not been selected. If your idea is not selected the rights to your idea automatically revert back to you – all you have to do is click "opt out" next to your idea in your Live Product Search database. Of course, it might be a better fit for a different search – especially if you made it to Stage 7 – so you might consider leaving it in the database and giving it another shot.
