Inventor Profile

David Petrie lives in the continental United States and has come up with an invention to assist with infants, young families and families that may have connections or subsequent connections with families with young children. This invention in particular assists with infant rest, naptime or bedtime. The invention was designed to help young infants sleep better and allow for the parents of the young infants a safer option for sleep activities for their young children.

The inspiration for this invention came from the desire to assist young families and a desire to assist in infant sleep patterns. The invention and inventor used their practical knowledge and understanding of the product and process to solve a very common issue among those who have young children. The invention required practical materials and combined them in unique ways to improve a common process. The inventor used their knowledge of the situation and applied a unique answer to a universal process.

This invention may be utilized domestically in the inventor’s home nation of the United States and North America. This invention and the inventor’s knowledge of the process may also be applied in other areas of the world including but not limited to: Europe, Asia, Australia/New Zealand, Africa, South America and other regions of the world that have a large portion of their population that consist of young families and infants.

What is the concept?

The inventor has chosen a name for the invention to be “Mommy and Me” or similar name variations and is open to discussion of the name. The inventor would desire final editing thought to any title variances or changes. Some variances to the name may be dictated by certain roles or societal models such as “Daddy and Me”, “Grandmother and Me” or other variations. The main name is “Mommy and Me” and this name will probably represent the main sector for the product.

“Mommy and Me” is designed to replicate a mother’s chest “in essence” or create a “feeling” for the young child that they are near their mother’s chest. This position is extremely popular among young infants and can be seen duplicated in several environments. The inventor desires to create a product that produces this environment and allow for the mother to have a break as the baby gets needed rest.

The idea is to create a device that you can lay your child on that recreates the up and down motion, warmth, temperature and even the sound of the mother’s heartbeat. The “sleeping pad” that the child will lay on includes a heating element, a soft pad and an internal speaker. The element is to replicate the warmth or body temperature of the mother. The speaker is meant to replicate the sound of a heartbeat or rhythm and sound of the heartbeat as the baby would hear it as if their ear was next to the mother’s chest.

Also connected via wireless or via cord could be a “control panel” which would encompass dials, gauges, and other connecting points for use. This “control panel” would control the internal devices. The “control panel” would also include a baby monitor and USB input. The baby monitor would be used for increased safety as a traditional monitor. Also the USB to input device would allow for the replication of the heartbeat.

This device is envisioned by the inventor to be portable and should have a “delay switch” of some caliber. This “delay switch” could allow for the device to shut down, go into hibernation mode or shut down after a qualified amount of time has passed. The inventor to save energy for the device and also keep it safe from common heating factors or electrical problems envisions this “delay switch” or shut down process.

Consideration for multiple sizes and multiple fits for various circumstances and/or environments would be essential. You could have a standard size device along with alternate sizes. This alternate size would be in the form of length and width depending on the environment that is relevant. You could have varying sizes for the varying users in the market.

How does it work?

The invention is designed to allow for use by a parent. The main design was for the invention to replicate a mothers breathing, temperature and heart patterns. The invention was thought to allow for a better sleep pattern while allowing for the parent to have some time alone or a break from holding the child.

This invention could also be designed to allow for replication of a father’s temperature and heart rhythm or other loved one that cares for an infant such as a grandparent, aunt, uncle, sibling or close friends and care takers for the family.

The main users that were envisioned by the inventor were any parent with an infant child. However, the inventor is open to working with multiple family oriented environments and can tweak or change certain aspects of the product to fit varying environments or scenarios.

As an offshoot of the invention the inventor would like this to not only be a portable device but also possibly create a crib that the device is permanently installed into. The inventor could envision alternate or subsequent ideas that can be considered attachments or extras for this product. One example of this would be the ability to record the real heart beat of the mother or father and play this back for the infant.

This invention functions in similar fashion as it is built. It is designed for functionality with specific infant sleeping activities.

Some commercial businesses as well as the average recreational users may be able to utilize this invention. The business opportunities consist of but are not limited to: home activities, baby supply stores, retail stores, baby specialty stores and events and other areas that utilize infant activities or young family activities.

Materials for construction

The inventor has an understanding for dimensions for the “Sleeping Pad” at approximately three feet by two feet. The inventor feels this is the smallest size considered and that the dimensions could be larger depending on the need.

The dimensions for the “Control Panel” are envisioned by the inventor to be approximately twelve inches by four inches. The inventor feels this is the largest the control panel would need to be and that it could be consider in smaller dimensions.

The inventor has suggested materials for construction. Some ideas consist of but are not limited to: Common materials found in bedding and sleeping pads for infants, common materials found in control panels, electrical switchboards or other common panels of control for smart devices and computer technologies.

The invention is envisioned standard from top to bottom as mentioned above (an understanding is inherent that this could change based on variances among models or updates).

Coating for the sleeping pad could be applied for cleaning purposes. Considering the application of the invention and the environment of application, cleaning for constant reuse would be a major consideration for construction. The right ingredient of a coat or stain would allow for extended life and reduce factors such as rust decomposition, fraying and staining.

Current technology such as polycoating or polycation could be utilized by this invention’s “control panel” to allow for extending use and continue environments that consist of heat, air, water and other particles that cause deterioration. There could be basic models for light use and varying models that use alternate components for heavy use purchasers.

What problem does it solve?

The inventor understands the following benefits list but also understands that the benefits are not limited to this list: The benefit that any parent can be able to put their child down for a nap or to bed for the night. The benefit that the infant could fall asleep faster and stay asleep longer. The added benefit included that the sleep be done all in the security of the baby monitor close by for the guardian and/or parent.

The inventor feels like the following consumers benefit by using this product: Anyone who has children especially young infants, grandparents, parents, guardians and the general population that cares for or longs to improve sleep environments for young infants. This inventions statis is patent pending.
