Top 10 list?
June 11, 2011
All but 2 of my R8’s have received feedback notes. I wanted to compile them in an effort to help any interested ENers. I didn’t want to go back and figure out the length of time between the presentation and the feedback. That would be either a day of searching thru submission contract emails or the forums. I’ll try to keep this current so that will be easier to check.
Turns out to be 10-R8’s, so here is my Top 10 list… of rejection:
1. A previous R8 with Pyrex after 8/24/2010 presentation: “The sponsor felt that this was simply an extension of an idea that already exists on the market and that solutions are already on the market that solve this problem.
2. General Mills was presented with pie crust packaging on 9/21/2010: “General Mills was primarily focused on cost-saving ideas and felt this idea, while interesting, was too expensive to implement.”
3. Sleep Innovations was presented 10/22/2010: “Memory foam is too expensive to make this product competitive.”
4. ASOTV 10/28/2010: “This submission does not qualify for feedback as it was submitted prior to the launch of the Insider Program.” Oh well.
5. ASOTV 10/12/2010: Same idea as above, before I figured out that ASOTV only really needed one submission. This was another quarter. I later got another R for this idea at my request after I read the blog about ASOTV R8s.
“The ASOTV search sponsors did not feel that this idea was a fit for direct response television. Please see below for more:”

6. P&G presentation 9/2/2010: “The cost of manufacturing is too high to make the product commercially viable”
7. Brica presentation 2/10/2011: “The sponsor spent time reviewing the option despite the initial fact that it wasn’t exactly what search LPS called for. While they found the item interesting they ultimately decided that it was larger in scale than things they were looking for.”
8. ASOTV 12/17/2010: “Your item was presented as part of the ASOTV program. Through this process the item has been presented to between 5 to 8 different potential ASOTV partners. While each potential partner may have specific experience/opinion that caused them to eliminate the item from their consideration it has been in front of numerous companies, who decided that based upon product, ability to make demonstrative, competing items in marketplace, etc. that they did not want to move forward with it for ASOTV options.”
9. Already posted in another blog entry, but wanted it all in this one. Pyrex feedback from 8/24/201 presentation I received this week:
“Jane -
I wanted to personalize this feedback for you. I know that this LPS has lasted a long time, we continued to push World Kitchen, but ultimately we told them they needed to make a decision. My contact is sorting out the strategy for the development of this category and unfortunately he advised that it could take some time. He and I did discuss that he can still approach us in future and inquire about the final items should there be interest. He fully understands the risk that these may have been licensed to another company in the meantime, which he feels in understandable.
He did want this message communicated: these items are exceptionally unique, however they do not fit currently with my near term strategy for this category.
I wanted you to also know that Chris and I believe in these final products, and we have a potential interesting partnership opportunity that we are going to explore with the ideas in upcoming few weeks.
Can’t gaurantee it will work out, but we do believe in the item.
Scott”
10. And last but not least, Nascar. This was presented on Friday last week and I received the feedback 6 days later. This was also shared in its own blog space, but whatever.
“Jane -
I loved the idea, and there were several in the room that got a good chuckle out of it and saw it as a neat novelty piece. Ultimately they decided they believed more in some other beverage related items that we presented and may pursue commercialzing those.”
