Harry Potter Lawsuit

The creator of an online website called “The Harry Potter Lexicon” was recently sued by the books’ author, J.K Rowling, and their publisher. The website was created by a fan, a librarian, and it contains a detailed timeline, a dictionary, and other information from the Harry Potter world. The website was publicly praised by J.K. Rowling, but that fondness didn’t last once she learned that another publisher planned on printing a book version of the website. Is this clear cut copyright infringement, or is J.K. Free music? Is downloading an MP3 really a crime?

Unless you’re a real saint, or stuck in the past technologically, you have probably downloaded some music without paying for it for listening during your morning jog. And if you swear you have never done such a thing, you surely know someone who has. Perhaps your kids or the guy in the cubicle next to you. It seems harmless enough, but how big a deal is it really? Is it truly a crime? If so, how could you ever get caught and how severe can the punishment really be?
