Ideas...

July 11, 2009

My granduncle's, grandfather's brother Dr Ed Woldman an Internist, Invented a drip method for ulcers in the stomach. My grandfathers other brother Norman Woldman wrote the book that's considered the Bible of engineering alloys. Book Title: Woldman's engineering alloys By Norman Emme Woldman, John P. Frick As a child around the age of 7, I remember creating a gadget that I adhered to my bicycle to hold my AM Transistor Radio on the handle bars. So now while I rode my bike I could listen to my radio without having to hold it in my hands and steer. That day I knew i wanted to someday have a product that everyone used and loved as much as I did riding around on my bike listening to my hands free radio. Ever since, I've been coming up with a multitude of ideas for products and haven't had the fulfillment of my dream which is the accomplishment of a successful product that transforms people's life's. It seemed like every time I came up with a idea I would see it on a store shelve 2 - 3 years later which told me my ideas were viable and my product ideas were on the track. The last Idea I had I won a National Great Idea Contest and ended up manufacturing the product. I had sales in the thousands, but only to find someone did something similar with better marketing skills and hit the jackpot with it. There's nothing like that feeling of creating something new. It's been 50 years since that first idea. Early on I was accused of day dreaming as a child by one of my teachers. My teacher made it seem like a bad thing. I realize now I was allowing my mind to wonder, imagine and create. All the same things I love doing today wondering, Imagining and creating.

The Big Idea!

November 18, 2010

I can't tell you how many times I've had a idea and have seen it on the store shelve 2 to 3 years later. This has happened for the last 50 years of my life. Or have done a search online only to find my Big Idea is already out there. I've been told and have read that if this happens to you, your on the right track with the way you think of ideas and what people are wanting to buy. The latest example is the Sole Skate now marketed by Razor. I had this idea 10 years ago. The math is when you think of an idea there are about 100 other people thinking of that same idea. One of these days it will happen and when it does it's going to be bitter sweet. My Mom was my biggest fan and is not here today to share everything that's been happening in my life these last 5 years. I miss sharing my ideas with her and her excitement every time I came up with one. She used to say your a genius and that always made me smile and then laugh because I knew better :). I'll probably break down in tears when this day finally comes not being able to share it with her.

Spirit

December 24, 2010

The meaning of spirit: The part of a human associated with the mind, will, and feelings. After a few red x's, I asked myself a few of the same questions that always, keeps me in the game. Question: Do you remember exactly, why it is your here? Answer: It's because It's the happiest moment of my life when I come up with a product idea. Question: Do you remember why? Answer: It's because I LOVE what I'm doing. Question: Isn't that what you've been doing since you've been here?. Answer: Yes, and that feeling is way more important than winning or losing.

Low latent inhibition

December 30, 2010

Most people are able to ignore the constant stream of incoming stimuli, but this capability is reduced in those with low latent inhibition. It is hypothesized that a low level of latent inhibition can cause either psychosis or a high level of creative achievement or both, which is usually dependent on the subject's intelligence. Those of above average intelligence are thought to be capable of processing this stream effectively, enabling their creativity. Those with less than average intelligence, on the other hand, are less able to cope, and so as a result are more likely to suffer from mental illness. First time I heard of low latent inhibition was on a show called Fringe. I obviously found it interesting and fascinating. All through school I always received C's, D's and yes F's because I never applied myself. I was always daydreaming, imagining the what if's and new product ideas were always popping into my mind. When I put myself back in school, college around 17 years ago I got straight A's and was on the deans list for four straight years in a row. Why, what changed?. it's because I was interested in what I was learning and loved it. I didn't see college as work, it was a whole lotta fun. I'm now looking at life as in chapters and this last year has been a great one. Looking forward to turning the pages as I continue on this path and new journey.

Dream BIG!!!

November 03, 2011

There’s something so amazing about achieving a dream (still in limbo here:) in a very real tangible way. I feel very inspired by what we all have achieved and I think that’s inspiring to the others as well and that’s the amazing part of it. Dream BIG!!!
