How do I get Started?

I am interested in bringing a product to market that I have designed that I feel could be perfect for today's youth. I haven't started a patent or liscensing process nor have I talked to anyone about production. Do you know any groups/individuals that are great resources? I want to stay away from the commerical invent/inventor products if I can. I've heard they are a rip off. Can anyone help me get started?
