It's Happening.
January 22, 2010
So I’ve looked at this blank blog a few times, waiting to write until I found the perfect title, the perfect entry, to report this news…
Obviously you can see I decided to just start typing…
I am writing with great joy, humility, and excitement and here to report “its happening….”
Recently I signed off on licensing deal and now have the opportunity to make and market my first product on DRTV. Wow.
Sort of feels like getting the ticket to Vegas (like in ‘So you think you can dance’ or ‘American Ideal’)…I have no idea what will happen from here but I am so incredibly lucky and excited to simply have the chance to see…
In the past 6 months I have learned so much… I feel like I am getting my masters in ‘DRTV’. My advice thus far, READ. Read patent books, licensing books, EN digest magazine, threads on this site. You need to know it, not count on someone else to advise you…
The more you learn the more questions you know to ask and the more road traps you can TRY to avoid.
I am hesitant to give any details right at this time but I will, I promise to write about this journey and communicate to all of you the little things I learn along the way and the things I’d do different already…it is just to raw, too fresh and happening too fast to do right now. Plus I’m a bit superstitious, feeling that if I tell you the good it will turn to bad and if I report the bad I am not grateful for the good… So I’ll wait to get into details until we get closer to market.
I will say though on a personal level that it all feels like it is clicking for the first time… Like most of you I always new I had ideas, could always think of the clever tagline, the new way to use an old thing, a great marketing pitch. And my entire life I knew I wanted to do something of my own, my own business, or something… but what?
I tried on careers over the years (not jumping into them) but researching franchises, physical stores, internet business, how about a vstore, an agency, a blank, blank, blank…
But none ever felt right. I didn’t dream of a storefront, home franchise still felt borrowed, …would I spend forever more wondering what it was I meant to do?
And then came Edison Nation, a new friend Christine told me about this site…
I tried it and it was the start to a whole new world for me…
Who knew there were so many other people like me, so fun to talk to others with the ‘bug’.. who knew there was a safe place to submit once-in-a-lifetime chances… but most importantly who knew people can, and do, make a living out of just thinking and selling ideas? I never knew, I never knew.
That’s it. That’s what I was meant to do. This is what I think I was born to do.
There is a reason I was born with this natural instinct to think up new things. But this gig is complex… you can’t just jump in it is a business that you need some money to start and I’ll need to look before leaping.
But for now I continue to hope, to pray, that this current deal may pay off just enough… that just maybe if this goes a little bit right I will get the chance to purse this dream further.
I am happy to make it this far. To have the chance (not to make money or seek fame) but the chance to do what feels right to be doing.
To all of you I wish you encouragement and hope—keep going, I didn’t know how, why or when, just knew that I had to….
