Hi, my name is Becky and I am a “refresh” addict.

Thanks for the website and forums, Matt. We love Edison Nation and Everyday Edisons.

We first joined for Kurt to submit his inventions, but soon I became addicted to reading the search criteria and submitting an idea, or two, or three. We both enjoy the creativity and fun of watching the dashboards.

Welcome to all the newbies. You’re gonna love it here!

You absolutely will find some answers there. You could also put on a little presentation about your product.

Here is the website for the group: www.nsinventors.com Let me know if you are interested. I’ll make sure I make the meeting. I don’t always go anymore.

Hi everyone, my name is Fred. I think of myself as an inventor, over the years I have come up with a lot of ideas for products and then see my very idea come out onto the market down the road. Anyway I’m finding a lot of good info on the site. I currently am doing patent searches on a couple of different ideas and when I’m done with that I will be looking to the rest of you for guidance on what the next best step will be for me to take. Glad to meet all of you.

I have been in the construction trades for 35 yrs. I rec’d my first patent in 2006 for a tool I invented. I brought it to last yr’s casting call in Providence. That’s when I joined EN. I’ve hit “Top 5” once for WPH and submitted a few other ideas also. I am slowly getting involved in forums and enjoy the family relationships that are forming and all the encouragement you offer. Thanks!

I am new at this and would just like to ask a few questions. I have a very simple idea that I would like to submit, but it is not an idea for the kitchen, and it doesn’t seem like its good enough for the other company Hammer or something like that. It would fit more in the educational department to help others learn. Should I submit it here and hope someone picks it up or what? Would I be able to pay for a gold membership in advance say like six months or so?

Hi Cheryl and welcome! Someone tried to pay in advance a while back and found that it wasn’t possible, though they may have changed.
My advice would be to look at the form for the current searches: each one is different but they are similar. Use the format to develop your submission and then either submit it to the Hammacher or keep it on hold for another search that is a better fit. If you submit it to HS and it’s not picked, you can keep it and submit it to any following searches without having to pay the $25 fee again. You would have to pay the monthly Gold membership fee to do that. Hope this helps.

Hi everyone! I joined EN last month so you can say I am practically a newbie. I discovered EN while searching for my favorite magazine, Inventor’s Digest because they have stopped appearing on the newstand where I usually buy it from. Discovering EN was a Eureka moment by itself for me. I work in Finance (accounting) for an oil & gas company, so inventing is my greatest escape to the monotonous nature of my job.

It’s wonderful to be in the company of the most creative minds that the inventing industry has to offer.

I joined Edison Nation last month, I must say I’m enjoying this Forum immensely!!! I’m a Nurse, Musician, Writer and am driven by the power of Invention. I’ve been designing things all of my life but never put any of it out there until of late. I seen a lot of that which I designed taken by someone else re-engineered and taken to market, but that’s the name of the game, who can build the better mousetrap. I really got started with this in 2004 when i decided i wanted to break into the sports Industry, (thus the name SPORTZIAM). My ideas got off to a great start but were bought to a screeching halt when my Son had a set of Identical twins, one died shortly after birth and the second died two years later. In the interim my focus was on helping my family heel from our tragic loss and helping take car of Quinnn because he required round the clock care, was born completely disabled an on a feeding tube. We shared 2 years with Quinn and tried to give him as much Love and comfort as we could. In 2006 He passed in his sleep. We’re still in the heeling process but have put our lives back together and are evolving stronger and more determined than ever to try and help others who experience The Twin to Twin Transfusion Syndrome. So at some point if I get any of my products to market so the money would be donated to that very cause for research. My grandson’s have passed by my dream lives on. I am the very proud parent of 7 wonderful children all of which are grown except one who is 16 and lives at home with me, an inspiring engineer or a move over Tom Brady football hopeful. The eldest of my sons, is a Senior Software Engineer for NASA, one is a Lawyer, two are Chefs, one is a Physical Therapist and one is work towards a PHD in political Science, It’s been an interesting journey to say the very least. Hope this gives you some in sight as to what I am about. Have a great day.

Hello to you all and thank you for the warm welcome and kind assistance since I very recently joined less than one month ago.

I am an architect, designer, art director, project manager and fabrication engineer (For lack of a better term, if there is such a thing!).

Most of my work over the past 20+ years has involved themed architecture and design. Including theme park rides, shows and attractions, restaurants and some retail. I learned my trade mostly on the job, working with many talented individuals and groups of people who have been kind enough to mentor me and vice versa.

Currently I am employed with a company that engineers and builds custom decorative light fixtures, such as chandeliers, wall sconces, pendants and some other related specialty items as different projects dictate. 95% of our work is installed in just about any of the Casinos in Las Vegas and elsewhere throughout the USA and even in several overseas projects.

Before that I was the project designer for a major architectural firm in Las Vegas.

I have a knack for being able to conceptualize, sketch, render, detail and direct just about anything someone can describe and make it look nice. At least, I’ve been told…..

It seems that I am in very good company here and I really am looking forward to mixin’ it up with all these creative people!

Woo-hoo!

Hello all,

My name is Josh and im super stoked to see a great sites for pospective inventors. Hats off to the founders of this great resource for inventors, with all the schemes out their from companies that have no interest whatsoever of helping people get their idea’s to market,it’s refreshing to see that their are those that have an interest in everyday people that have good ideas and inventive minds that need a little help mapping there way through the process!

I placed my first idea for LPS a couple of weeks ago,and im tickled with the fact that there are pros that are gonna look the idea over and give me thumbs up or down on something my little (pea brain) came up with……lol!

I do believe their are alot of inventors out there but its hard to bring us all together at once, but ENandEE have came up with a unique way of making this possiable.I guess i would call myself a more (OUT OF THE BOX) thinker than inventor, hince my EN tagname IDEAMonster. Thats what my ideas become for me, a monster like the one you told your parents about that was in your closet when you where a little kid. But they never believed you…..lol!

I’m just just a regular JOE with no formal education beyond HS but i’ve always been a creative type of person and look at how things can be eaiser needed or better in a logical kind of way, cause that’s really the only way i know.I dont know if that’s good bad or indifferent, but it’s how i create.I have never took anything apart and put it back together never had any of my idea’s made into prototypes or any of the such, but i’m very interisted in finding and learning about the (HOW TO) of it all. I hope that i can be of assistance to this group in some sort of way,not really sure how i can do that with all the talented inventors that frequent here? My experience is simple real world kinda stuff,i ran a family business and have been in sales in some fashion all my life.I’m pretty good at marketing, sales and promotion.I will no doubt be buggin some of you for ideas and info regarding my inventions, and i’m more than happy to help when and where i can!

Thanks for reading my intro, all the best

Hey everyone –
I just discovered this site – it’s amazing!! I have been trolling around and have learned so much already!
Just a bit about me – we currently live in MN (can you say BRRRRR???!!!) and will be here for the next LONG while (I’m gearing up to be excited about that one…). We have criss-crossed the country for my hubby’s medical training, and are finally 4 months from the END!!! (After 9 years of post-graduate schooling, he better be finishing up!). He accepted a spot here in MN, so we are staying put for a while.
As for me, I teach aerobics, and work very part time as a dietitian, and work FULL time as a mom to 4 small kids (just call me the circus leader – it’s pretty much managed chaos around here lately!).
Cooking for my kids day in and day out is what led me to my invention last Christmas Eve, and we have been pursuing it for the past year. We started out looking to manufacture and go into business ourselves (at the urging of one of my family members… who later backed out when his wife started having health issues), and are now more looking to license the invention.
I posted a question about this in the ‘selling’ section, so I’ll spare you the repeat of the advice I am seeking. I am just very happy to have found all of you! (Lately I have felt like I have been running in quicksand trying to get this invention off the ground!).
Thanks so much and have a great day!

Hi, my name is Mark and I became a gold member about a year ago so I could enter an invention at last year’s EE Chicago casting call. Unfortunately, my invention wasn’t selected. Even though I think there’s a market for the invention, I think it was too complicated to develop within a year (I only had a mock-up, not a functioning prototype) and questionable if it could be patented. And being an electronic device, there’s a chance the technology may advance past it while it’s in development. Lesson learned.

I’ve had additional ideas and finally submitted one to the Christmas Tree Shops LPS – I’m at G4 so far. I need to make it a habit to spend time on my ideas so I can submit to more LPS’s.

I’m looking forward to learning more and submitting more inventions. EN is a great resource.

I live in sunny San Diego. I’m a single mom… who is totally motivated by my situation. I have a wonderful family who has been ultra supportive since my son was born but I am missing my independence and am in some serious need of some supplemental income. I had one idea go to Green 7 (then Red 8) in the West Point Home search and now that same idea is sitting Green 7 in the ASOTV search. Finding this site was like finding hope and, in addition to learning a lot, I have made a lot of wonderful connections here.

My life has been crazy busy lately and my goal this year is not to be a refresh junkie. So far so good… but it’s probably just because I don’t know when the ASOTV presentations are going to be… It’s likely I’ll become more active again when things start ramping up.

Greetings Matt,

I just want to say I love the Everyday Edisons show and I think Louis and the rest of you guys are perhaps the best inventors of them all in coming up with this Edisons Nation idea in the first place. You’re really meta-inventors, in fact.

It sometimes seems to me like you need to be rich in America these days in order to have an idea. I called a lawyer recently for general information about getting a patent on an idea, and I was fully prepared for him to give me a patenting price estimate of $5,000 or even $6,000 — even though I had heard that patent searches could be done for $1,500.

Come to find out, the lawyer wanted to charge me $25,000! — and that was WITHOUT a product search, which he says his firm doesn’t even bother doing these days — for various reasons that I didn’t fully understand.

In short, I think America in general needs a new affordable approach to welcoming innovation from all of its citizens, rich and poor — and Edisons Nation may just be the way to do it.

As a frustrated inventor myself (frustrated by high patenting fees), I’m certainly eager to give Edisons Nation a chance, and to that end I will be signing up for a gold membership soon.

Thanks for implementing this great idea and here’s hoping it proves to be rewarding in every sense of the word for all parties concerned!

Hello, I am not new to EN as I visit the site daily however I don’t post often. I find this website extremely helpful and for those of you that I have emailed privately, thank you for all your help.

I am a mother of 3 girls. My oldest daughter just turned 5. I’m so busy but lucky for me I am a master at time management, so in the evenings and about 2 hour a day I am able to work on my inventions. Currently, I am working on 2 products (child related of course).

I used to work in corporate for a supplier side consumer market research firm. I was the project director in charge of testing new product concepts for companies such as Philips, PowerBar, Intuit, Del Monte, Safeway, Nestle etc. Loved the job, really liked seeing what these companies were going to, or thinking about, coming out with and the psychology behind it all. I miss working with adults on a day to day basis. I’m a stay at home mom now and the luckiest person in the world but sometime forget that. I love life, very positive, nice to everyone, and feel the best when I’m helping someone out. I have a ton of energy so if anyone needs lifting up, just email.

Hello, everyone. I’m from the Philadelphia area, having moved out of Philly last year to be closer to work in Chester County. I’ve been coming here a couple of months and joined as part of the live product search with Hammacher. I’m at the research and design level, waitingfor the next steps.

I can see this is a great forum for people wanting to get their products to market or just to have them evaluated.

I’m a furniture maker by trade, specifically upholstery and leather work although I have worked on wood finishing and antique restorations. I now work on aircraft interiors and upholstery.

I’ve worked on and off for the past 10 years on 3 inventions and besides the one I submitted to EN the other two will take more resources to produce. However, I still work on them part time, buying parts, getting parts welded and such. I look forward to being a long time meber, making friends here and helping out in any way I can. Thank you all.

Hi there Johnny. If you haven’t already, definitely make a sketch of your idea and start an “inventor’s notebook”. Write down your ideas and notes. I had mine notorized … Gave me some peace of mind as I started looking into completing a provisional patent application. If you can, begin work on a prototype … even if it’s a crude version or made out of legos.

Important Disclaimer - I AM NOT an expert and don’t claim to be. These are just a few of the things that I have done. And, to date, do not have my product on store shelves … but, I am working hard.

Good luck!

Hi All,

I am a newbie on EN and actively finding my way around. I am excited to be apart of EN as there is not a day that does not go by that I try and think of new ideas or ways to improve everyday living. I have been actively working on my own invention now for the past 4 years and am ready to take it to the next level – YEAH!!!

So, just a little introduction from me and I look forward to learning from each and everyone of you.

Hi Johnny,

Welcome to EN. I second what Rose just mentioned. I started and continue to use just a notebook and sketch pad. One of the things I always do is date my work for both reference and to create a timeline. I guess if there is any advice I can give you is that you should take the idea and put it on paper as it is easy to keep it in your mind and forget about it over time. This can be the starting point to getting your provisional patent application done. Go to the USPTO website (www.uspto.gov) and you will find a large array of resources on how to file your provisional application. I did my provisional application by myself and then you get a year within which to submit your non-provisional application (this is where I got an patent attorney to help as mine was pretty technical). Also try start builing a prototype like Rose mentioned. Anyways, good luck and keep in touch.

Welcome Johnny and Brendan!

Not just any notebook, it needs to be a notebook that you can’t easily take pages out of – or insert pages into. You want to date your entries and have them witnessed by two other people not too closely related to you. Build a prototype that’s either a “looks like” or “works like” and take pictures with a timestamp. It’s about documenting your idea. If your idea fits one of the EN searches, entering it into the search is a great way to verify and document your idea…..and maybe get a licensing deal as well.
Good luck!

Hi Ila, I was referring to the “timestamp” on a digital camera, where the date and/or time will show up on the print. It’s not foolproof, but if you’ve also got a journal with dates and witnesses it adds to the evidence.

Thanks, Becky. I try.

Welcome Lisa,

The short answer is this is not a scam. If you are new to inventing and have a winning invention or idea that is marketable and patentable then this is your least expensive and least time consuming vehicle to possibly make money from your invention. I say possibly because there are other variables that might preclude your idea or invention from being selected by a particular live product search. I suggest your read the forums and ask questions. A quicker way to get up to speed would be the education section of the Edison Nation web site. If you haven’t already read it the ABC’s of inventing this would be a good place to start.

Welcome, Lisa and Colleen!
No scam here, happy to say. I’ve been here close to a year, I think. My idea was selected in the first LPS, and I got to sign my first licensing contract and got my first royalty check just as the site says. My idea should be on the shelves sometime this summer or fall. The fact that EN offers you the opportunity without having to file for a patent, have an expensive prototype made, etc. is really remarkable. Getting all the knowledge in these forums for free is a great bonus……take advantage!

Yep, I signed my licensing contract and got my first royalty check with no problem as well. What I really like about the searches is I came up with my idea in response to the WestPoint search- I had never thought about this idea before. The opportunity EN provided was the catalyst- and that makes it even more fun and rewarding!

I understand that if I were a gold member, I could post my idea to another search for $0.00.

Will not being a gold member slow my idea’s progress?? Someone mentioned casting calls…what are those?? Is there anything else I should know?

Thank you for your advise!!

Gold membership does not give you an advantage as far as evaluation. All ideas are looked at the same way. Don’t worry about the casting calls for the moment, since none have been announced- The casting calls are for the tv show, which is different than the searches.

A prototype is not required, nor expected, nor necessary. As long as you can get the idea across, that is what’s important.

Product Development will happen after an idea is licensed.

Hi Beth. There is no rhyme or reason why one idea moves and another one sits for a while. The best I can figure is that some ideas are more complicated or take longer to screen against the search parameters/criteria. An idea I submitted last week just before the LB (Lifetime Brands) search ended is at G4 while an idea I submitted a month before is at G3. I learned a while ago to just not worry about it and as long as it doesn’t go red, it is still good. You probably won’t see much movement past stage 3 on the BB&B until after the search deadline. That’s when the EN team will have time to focus on all the entries for that search.

As far as your other question goes, they are probabley just evaluating each idea on its own merits and they will progress individually through the stages. Sincy your two ideas are complimentary to each other, your best bet would be to send an email to the EN team and make them aware of the fact. They always have responded pretty quickly to emails, so you will know they know and don’t have to wonder and worry.

Hope this answers your questions. Good Luck

If your idea is chosen, then yes you sign over your rights in exchange for royalties. If your product does not meet the $100,000 mark within 5 yrs, then you can have your rights returned. If your idea is not picked, you still have 100% ownership of the idea. These product searches are a way to get your product licensed- if that is not your goal, then you shouldn’t enter your it.

Hi everyone,

I noticed a lot of you asking if anyone ever makes it or if any of this is worth it. I for one will tell you this is the best place to go if you have ideas and talent and just no way to get the patents, or the marketing or all the myriad of other things you need to get a product to market.

I went to a casting call for season 3 and made it onto the show. That inspired me to push hard and keep working at it and try to come up with more ideas. I treat it like a second job spending 2-3 hours a night working on my ideas. It’s paid off because one of my As Seen on TV ideas was just chosen.

None of this ever could have happened for me without Edison Nation. I’ve met the people there and I’ve worked with them for the show and to get the prototypes made for the ASOTV sponsor. They are good people and actually care about the inventors here. They want to see you succeed because when you succeed they do to.

If you have any doubts at all about this site or if it’s worth it. Think of me, a graphic designer just barely squeaking by who now has 2 products about to hit the market. It happened for me and it can happen for you. I wish you all the best of luck believe in yourselves, work hard and you too can make your dreams a reality.

If any of you want to talk about this or how it works feel free to email I want you to know just how much this has really changed my life and gave me what I needed to believe in myself and my ideas. I am so grateful.

Hi, my name is Charlene, and Toni is my one and only friend so far. It’s my fault I don’t have more, I’ve only written on the forums once, I usually sit back and read them, but I never know what to say on them. I was wondering, if you don’t get your idea picked up by a company, do you guys ever get together and talk about your inventions with each other and try to come up with something new or try to help each other tweek an idea? There seems to be alot of moral support and sometimes I would like to get on and tell my idea, but I haven’t seen anyone talk about their ideas. Anyway, A little about myself, I have 4 kids ages 11, 10, 8 and we lost one to sids 13 years ago. I joined EN two months ago, and I’ve really enjoy reading the forums.

posted    Report this post
plavery85's Avataree_badge

Hi Charlene,

As far as inventing goes, you really don’t want to talk about the details of your invention in an open forum like this. You need to keep everything general otherwise you put you idea in danger of being taken or patented by someone else. I personally have helped others as they have helped me. You kind of have to pick people you have been talking with, establish a relationship with them and build up trust. Once you do that you can bounce your concepts and ideas off of each other and feel confident nothing will be taken from you because you are all friends and inventors.Even then, the less you say about the details the better but at least you can get some feedback on your ideas without opening it up to the world.

On the open forums you can ask very general things like does anyone know where to find a glue that can bond this and that, or I’m thinking about a new way to store paint, does anyone think that’s a good idea. You don’t post I have an invention that does this or any details of how it may work openly.

You have to realize that we do support each other. So far no one knows officially what any of the inventions that have won the LPS’s are but I’m sure that all the inventors that have won, have been congratulated by lots of the other inventors without them even know what was invented. I know I have. It’s a great community here and you’ll find tons of support in every aspect of inventing and more.

Good luck and I hope to see you posting more!

Hi Julia, EN usually evaluates the ideas and updates the dashboard in groups. I don’t expect to see much movement past 3 for probably another two+ weeks, then about a week (or less) before the actual presentation date we should see another round of movement to determine the finalists. Right now, EN is probably working like crazy to finish the submissions for CTS (Christmas Tree Shops), LB (Lifetime Brands), HS (Hammacher Schlemmer) since these presentation dates are coming up very quickly.

I know how nerve-wracking it can be to sit and wait for the darn dashboard to move, but you’re in really good company here. So, sit back with your favorite green drink and think positive green thoughts and welcome to EN!

I have been racking my brain and pounding away at my pc trying to find a way to submit my product to industry without spending the money that I don’t have. This seems to be the place. So, thank you for this opportunity. One thing that I have read alot on this site is to feel free to ask questions, so here they go. To submit a product to the LPS all i have to do is to pay the $20 or $25 fee? If I become a gold member I pay $25 and I can submit multiple ideas for no additianal fees? If I submit a product can I still offer my product to other entities for mfg and mrkt? When a product is selected and goes to store shelves who determines the % of sales that inventor recieves? I have more, but I’ll stop here. Again thank you for this opportunity.

Hi Mike,

You’re mostly right. If you are a non-Gold memeber, you pay $25.00 per submission, each time. Gold membership allows you to submit ideas for $20.00. You can submit the same idea to other searches for free. Each new idea will cost $20.00.

Regardless of which way you decide to go, I wish you lots of luck!!

Welcome, Mike. Some of your other questions are answered in the contract which you can access through one of the Live Product Search pages (Petsmart, ex.)
Once you submit your idea to an LPS, you are still able to submit it to other companies……although you will need to opt out of the search before you become G7. Once your idea hits G7 in the LPS process, you are locked into the contract for a maximum of 6 months. This is so EN can sign contracts with the search sponsor. If/when the search sponsor co. rejects your idea, you are then free to take it to other companies again. Or you can leave it in and see what other companies come along for a search…..and then if you’re a Gold member you can submit the idea again for free.
The %’s are spelled out in the contract and are pretty standard. In general, when you license a product you give up most of the control…..so the company that you license to will make all decisions regarding distribution, pricing, shelf space, etc.
Hope this helps.

Hi Anne! EN seems to focus on the LPS’s in order of the presentation deadlines. They just had presentations for LB (Lifetime Brands) and CTS (Christmas Tree Shops), they are presenting tomorrow for HS (Hammacher Schlemmer), then after that for WD40 and BB&B in June. As a general guideline: most submissions go to stage 3 in the first few weeks after submitting them, then they usually wont see much movement beyond stage 3 until a few weeks after the official close of each search. Usually stages 6 & 7 show up just before the presentation date.

This isn’t exactly a fast process, but it’s a whole lot faster and better than anything else out there or trying to do it yourself. Hope this answers your questions.

Good luck, relax and try to enjoy the wait!

Thank goodness! Every thing is going to run smooth now.

Wecome Everyone to Edison Nation.

A place I call home. Thank you Edison Nation for putting
my comments in your magazine. Cheryl you wrote a great
article about some really great inventors. I am proud to be
on the same pages with them. I hope my Sleep Apnea device

Congratualtions!! and I hope nothing but the best for you. May I ask which search promoted your Apnea device?? A friend asked me to watch for medical supply submissions.

Hi Julia, thank you for the congrats. My sleep apnea device
was not entered in an Edison Nation Contest. I do have
over 20 submissions in EN contests but not my sleep apnea
device. I am waiting for my utility patent to publish.
Hopefully by July 09. My friend Cheryl who wrote the article
for EN just thought it would be nice to mention it. Thanks
for asking. I am in negotiations with a company at present
for my device.

How does one add a picture to replace the standard Avatar in one’s profile. I was able to load the photo I want for my Avatar to the photo album. But I do not know how to make it my Avatar.

Thank you.

Hey everyone…I joined a few weeks ago and made my first submission to the live product search for WD-40. We’ll see what happens.

I always come up with crazy ideas for products and now I know I’m not alone. I’m still crazy but at least I’m in good company.

Hi,

My name is Jose. I’m new to EN, and I just submitted my first idea into the HD-40 LPS.
Im so happy to find a community of great people with hyperactive imaginations.
Other inventor’s forums I’ve been to were nowhere as active and friendly as I perceive EN to be.

I hope you find in me a good friend, and I wish you all lots of G8s!

When I submitted my idea, I did not upload a video. Is this required and if so, will I have a chance to do this if need be? I am not even sure that I have posted the question in the proper forum, if not will someone let me know? Thanks!

LuAnn, you can always add to or edit your submissions up to the presentation date. Just go to your dashboard, view all, scroll down to your idea database, click on the green edit button and make your changes. You may also want to send an email to the ENteam after making any changes to let them know of the changes. I’m not sure if this is necessary, but it can’t hurt.

Including a video is not a requirement, but it can help. Anything you can add to make your idea more clearly understood will only help in the long run. So far, not having a video has not hurt any of my submissions. I had a video for one, pictures/drawings for most of the rest, and a few had to rely on verbal descriptions only as I had no way to make a prototype and I can’t draw to save my life.

Hope this helps. Good luck!

Well, at least there is movement on the BBB submissions. I received a RED X in the 4th position.

I still believe in my idea. I think I’ll try going forward on my own….now I just need a good concept person to help with a proto type.

To all,

It,s Tommyboy here! Just a closet inventor with some great ideas. I work, work, work all day and play at night. I have been out there pushing my own inventions with little success and a chunck of change!!! I own a small painting/decorating company in Ohio that performs top notch work! Have a couple of ideas brewing for that industry so let’s go EN team and get some sponsors there. I also have a WD-40 submission that is hanging in right now. It should go all the way!!!!!

Hi all,

I am new here. Just submitted a few ideas and got Xed at R4,R6 and R8. I think LPSs are great but too few winners compared to the numbers of total submission. I know EN has limited staff to expend their services. But EN forgot she has the most supportive and creative members who will do anything to help each other. For those not selected 99.99% inventions, I know we can submit them to other searches and wait, we can also do something more. If EN has system to let members vote for each idea ( the voter agrees not to steal the idea by participate the activity, and only EN staff has access to the overall vote), give feedback, work as a focus group… and EN can chose more ideas for trade show… and even manufacture and sell the product in EN site. Since a lot products are simple and easy to make. I know a lot of you (including myself) want to develop your product by yourself but lack the fund, connection and energy it take from idea to shelf. But together we can.

Welcome to EN Mike! There is a lot of info here and it can be confusing to thresh out the answers you’re looking for sometimes.

EN has many opportunities for you to enter your product idea into an LPS (Live Product Search). Each LPS is sponsored by a company and they are looking for products that meet a certain criteria. So the first thing to do is look at the requirements of each search, research the sponsoring company to see if your idea fits in with their current product lines and with what they are looking for. If you feel your idea is a good fit, enter it and see how it does.

As a regular member, it will cost you $25/entry to submit. Gold members are a $20 one time fee and the idea can be entered into as many (or every) other/future LPS’s. You watch the progress of your idea as it makes it’s way through EN’s evaluation process on your dashboard. Every stage you pass will get a green checkmark – we refer to these as G3, G4, G5 etc. If your idea fails at any stage, you will receive a red x on that failed stage and your idea is no longer being considered for that search.

EN does not give individual feedback on why an idea may go red, but the stage at which you go red can give you some valuable feedback.

I hope this helps to get you started. I’m sure you probably have a lot more questions, so just ask away, we’re glad to help!

Hi,
I have been browsing for a couple months. I developed a product idea for dogs, I have researched for months finalized a prototype, solicited manufacturers, although probably not correctly, a touch of the paranoias. LOL In my search for manufacturers Petsmart said they would be interested in selling if I found a manufacturer. A marketing company approached me and seem to be interested but I am very cautious. I have done market research on this product for months prior to even filing a provisional patent. I am in the petcare industry ( so I worked out all the bugs )not the manufacturing industry so I am lost. I only met with the marketing company once and showed them the prototype, this is a very basic design made of plastics they thought it would cost .20 cents to make. Now two weeks have gone by and they want a copy of my provisional patent. I gave them the face copy to prove I had one, but they want the designs. I thought the designs were not given up unless a contract was made with a manufacturer. I know you are all thinking I should have entered in the contest but I am really poor at the moment, I didn;t have the 25.00. I am currently seeking jobs but until that happens I am broke, the marketing company was told this before they met with me. I have read that some of you approach manufacturers and some use marketing company’s but with all the scams I am unsure. Should I give up the designs or any other advice would be appreciated.
Thanks

I’ve been inventing since childhood a now going to try and get to that patent goal. Seems as you probabily know every time i think of something and have created it next thing i know i see it out there a few year later. Feels asthough I miss the bus.
I’m very happy I found this site and all the links that go with. thanks. I feel like i finely found the next phase of development.

Welcome, Jason!

One thing you’ll learn here is that a patent is NOT always a necessary goal. Use the search button to find posts about licensing and patenting from experts here – Roger Brown, Ron Komorowski, Mark Reyland, Jim Debetta, and more (NOT me!).

You won’t always see them agree but you will learn a whole lot about what not to do, what not to waste time, energy, and money on.

Good luck!

hello, my name is Linda and I submitted to the O-Cedar search about 1 month ago. I am standing strong at what is called a G3 and my husband and I check daily (if not more) to see if it has moved. I do have a simple question. If you submitted and idea and already have started selling the product, can you continue selling until you find out if it was selected? I simply have a product that a seamstress makes for me and I was deciding if I should take the next step (maybe facebook) to start promoting the product. Does anyone know the answer to this? Any help is appreciated.
Have a great day!

Hi everyone, my name is Brenda and I am new and I enjoy the forums so much! I have a patent and I am interested in submitting it. What do I need to do this? Do I need to submit patent drawings, patent or just type in my idea. I do not have a prototype yet but I am working on one. I love it here and am going to become a gold member before I submit my product. I appreciate everyones help and maybe I can help someone through the patent process.

dond's Avatarg8_badge

Welcome to EN Brenda. You really don’t submit your patent information until there is a Live Product Search that is asking for products that are similar to your patented product. For example, the Home Depot LPS is currently looking for paint related products. If your patent is about such products then you would enter a submission and on the third screen/page of the submission form is a place to tell about you patent status and such. Hopefully, your patented product will fit one of more of the current searches going on. Just click on the “Opportunities” tab at the top of screen and see what the companies are looking for. Best of luck.

Hi Brenda and welcome to EN.

You listen to Don he’s good people!

Oh, the wait for a search that fits, I know it well. I’ve been here since the beginning and I’m still waiting on a search to come up for a couple of my ideas. EN has a lot of searches going on all the time I’m sure eventually a good fit will come up. If not why not try working on an idea for an existing search. I find it very challenging and fun to do that and it really gets my mind going.

I wish you luck and hope to see you as an LPS winner soon! You couldn’t have found a better group of people to help get your product to market than the staff at EN and the other inventors like Don you’ll find on the forums. EN is a great place to be.

Hello Matt and hello Nation, My name is Jim I’m a newbie/ want-to-be inventor/innovator in the weary working weeds of life. I’m a blue collar worker with a white collar family. I’m married with four children, three in college and one in high school. My wife and I are just trying to live the dream hoping it doesn’t turn into a nightmare. We are all keeping the faith and hanging in and hanging on but these are hard time for most. I’ve been a member and a spectator for months wondering whether I belong or not. I posted my first entry about ten days ago on “EN wants to hear from U”,but didn’t receive any feed back,oh well. I’m encouraged by all the positive postings and success stories. Lisa Lisa 007 I enjoyed your videos, just wondering if you have seen the Il Divo video Simon Cowell put out I think you might enjoy it. Phil Avery I enjoyed your para glider video it brought back a lot of memories of my first sky diving adventure some thirty years ago. I had never been in a plane when I decided to jump out of one, WHAT A RUSH! What a story to tell but to long to tell here, but thanks again for the video I enjoyed the flash back.I have seven LPS submissions, three at R4, three at G3, one at G2. I keep getting knock down but I keep getting back up. I’ll keep throwing chance to the wind hoping something flies. After all this is more fun for me then playing the lottery. So hello and good luck to all. To Matt and the entire EN team thanks for reaching out and keeping the dream alive for all the talented people and the want-to-bees like me. I like to sign off with a slogan for Edison Nation, "WHERE IDEAS EVOLVE and INVENTIONS and INNOVATIONS SHINE BRIGHT! Happy Thanksgiving, Jim

Greetings! I have just recently joined EN and have not posted before…I have a couple of questions, the first concerning the products in your innovation store such as loopa, koku and korbie. Are these products that were submitted and developed by EN but have not been picked up by a retailer or they available elsewhere like Kmart? My second question is why is the forum set up to show the most recent post last rather than first? this seems like a more difficult method of following threads that one finds interesting. Leave it to an inventor to try and change how things are done LOL. Thanks; Karl Reed

Hello to all, My name is Kevin Williams. I am from Collinsville,Il, just east of St.louis. I have tinkerd around with inventing things for about 20 years or so. It would be a dream come true to see one of my ideas in the hands of a consumer, solving a problem.

I would like to thank Roger Brown for reffering me to EN.

I have eavesdropped on a few different forums. I like the advice Roger Brown was giving on a daily basis. Seeing others like Roger on EN is what made me want to be a part of this site.

I see a wide variety of backgrounds here and alot of positive advice on the “mystery” of actually brining a product to the market without going broke! I look forward to gaining knowledge from all who post on here. I can learn something from anyone.. Thanks and Have a good one !…….Kevin
