Don't Give Up

aubreyavila's Avatarg8_badge

I just wanted to give a word of encouragement to those who teeter on the edge of giving up on inventing or any other dream they may have. Don't give up! Keep going, your effort will pay off one day. I know many of you probably have days when you love inventing and also days when it brings you much disappointment (those red X days). But don't give up! Keep at it.

I know from personal experience that I almost gave up and on that day I saw a sign that said "don't give up!" and I got the message that I had to keep going. So I did and it has been a roller coaster ride ever since. So not only will I always be grateful for Edison Nation and Norpro for not giving up on me. I am grateful I didn't give up on me. So don't give up!

"Life is full of surprises and and serendipity. Being open to unexpected turns in the road is an important part of success. If you try to plan every step, you may miss those wonderful twists and turns. Just find your next adventure-do it well, enjoy it-and then, not now, think about what comes next." - Condoleeza Rice

Happy Friday!

Great advice, Aubrey!  Isn't it wonderful when we get just what we need, in such a way we will understand the message?  Such a gift... congratulations again!

Going to pick up some more of my Sprinkler Buddy babies tomorrow. They were born today!  Hope to have them all shipped across the USA by the end of this year and I need to have another product run done.

I can't tell you how many have told me it will never happen, you'll never get a patent, you'll never get them known, they'll never sell, etc...

Every time I hear negativity about my invention, it only pushes me harder to see it to the end.

The point is, you have to believe in your invention and yourself! No one else can get it done if your not willing to do it yourself. It's a game of back and forth, you have to find a way to continue against all the pitfalls you most certainly will face along the way. Emotional and financial challenges are a constant!

Most give up, the winners never gave up!

I can see my ship coming in on the horizon, it keeps me motivated and "Keeps me Keeping On!"

There was a skit on Saturday Night Live years ago that Eddie Murphy done called "Black History Minute", which resonates with this topic....

Hello, my name is Professor Shabazz K. Morton. In 1895, at the Tuskagee Institute in Alabama, a black man named George Washington Carver developed a new method of soul.. soil.. improvement through crop rotation.. So I messed up - SHUT UP!   Stop clapping before y'all make me smile!    ..to end the South African cultural dependence on cotton alone. As a result, Carver came up with hundreds of industrial uses for the peanut. Sure, industrial uses.

Meanwhile, one night, he's having a few friends over to his house for dinner. And one of them leans over and says to Dr. Carver, "Excuse me, George? What's that your putting on your bread?" Carver says, "Oh, that's nothing but a butter substitute that I made from peanuts. I can't digest all that animal fat, you know." So the other fellow tasted it, and he says, "Hmm.. this pastes pretty.. this tastes.."  Yeah? Keep on smiling.  "This tastes pretty good, man. Mind if we take a peek at the recipe?" And Dr. Carver says, "Take a peek? Man, you can have it. Who's gonna eat butter made out of peanuts? No, I'm working on a method to compress peanuts into phonograph needles."

So, Professor Carver's two dinner guests....Edward "Skippy" Williamson and Frederick "Jif" Armstrong - two white men - stole George Washington Carver's recipe for peanut butter, copyrighted it, and reaped untold fortunes from it. While Dr. Carver died penniless and insane, still trying to play a phonograph record with a peanut.

.... I know that was just a skit, but it speaks to inventors by forcing us to take a realistic look at the situation without the rose-colored-glasses.     Yes, anything can happen, and with the right amount of "marketing" anything can become a money maker... and that's what we must come to grips with before we spend our entire lives trying to play records with a peanut.

I just wanted to give the community an update on the Ooey Gooey Stuffed Treat Maker. It's been over two years since I submitted the idea, with a few ups and downs along the way. But I am happy to announce that Bed, Bath & Beyond is now carrying it in their online store. If it does well, it may make it to the box store. So if you love inventing keep at it! It's not going to be a road paved in gold but it is an interesting journey.

Aubrey, what a great idea! I've seen a lot of stuff I've wanted to buy that came into existence here at EN. But none have made me want to go out and buy Iike your invention. I can't wait to see it on the store shelves!
