Hi Michelle,

In the following statement:  "Desired categories can include but are not limited to:......"

I'm assuming that there has to be some limits to "not limited to".  Can you provide a few off limit categories?  Is it safe to assume that if the category is not currently listed on their web-site it is off limits?  Or are they open to completely new categories that involve some mechanisation?  It will be interesting to get the answer to this question.

The obvious way to find out is to submit the idea, but I don't want to waste the reviewers time (or my time for that matter).  I'm sure you don't want to be flooded with off topic submissions.

Hi Derrick!

Great question! For this search, I would stay focused on the categories listed on the BLACK+DECKER site.

That is not to say that they may expand to other areas in the future, but for this first search, let's stick to their known categories.

Best of luck!

Hi Yvonne!

If your idea makes it to finalist stage, is presented to BLACK+DECKER, and they opt to license it, you'll receive a phone call from the Edison Nation team informing you of the deal and you will receive a 50/50 share of all net receipts from that deal and subsequent sales of the product.

This is outlined in our innovator agreement which should have been emailed to you upon submission. You can also review it by clicking on the "Legal" section on the Edison Nation Help Page.

Michelle,

I submitted an idea today for this search, but I didn't find a way to give a price amount. the box was there but I couldn't do anything to put in an amount.  Is this not necessary for this search?  How can I put in an amount if is necessary? Will it disqualify me for this search because its not there?

Also yesterday when I was editing things I spent about two hours last night switching from notes on my phone to my computer to the edit function and saved it several times but somehow it wasn't saved saved when I finished, and had to redo it all today. Kinda teed me off. I thought maybe it had something to do with it being late on a Sunday night.  The main thing is its entered, now.

Hi Kenneth!

First, you do not need to include a price point - that section used to be included within the submission, but it is not required any longer. If you have data that you'd like to include, this can be added to your description.

I'm also sorry to hear that you lost data. We had no reports of downtime on the site itself, it could have been due to a wifi connection.

Glad you were able to get everything in and best of luck to you!

I can understand that EN filters out the chaff. But it seems not in Black & Decker's best interest to also filter out submissions that simply don't meet the EN Gyro Bowl test of mass appeal. Black and Decker does have higher end tools also. Perhaps it's more due to the fact that EN can't see how they will be able to add their design capabilities (Eventsys?) to the end product. While it might seem like sour grapes, I have seen such occur in the past.

The timeframe is all up to Black and Decker. It’s on their pace. No need to rush as they will be making careful decisions that will require input from other members.  They may decide to come back with initial yes and no’s.

It may take some time.  Expect 2 months this way if it is sooner you’ll be relieved.

Steve -

Good morning. The objective of the presentation itself is to have SBD evaluate the products and determine those that they have potential interest in to due additional due diligence on their end. This will narrow the field of item, and SBD will than due their internal due diligence on those narrowed down products. They have mutliple divisions and have licensees involved, so there are several layers of review.

The ideas they are not interested in are released shortly after presentation once feedback has been provided by SBD team.

Per the Innovator Agreement once in G7 there could be a 6 month window where it could be reviewed, although our goal is always to either have deal done earlier, or have it released. But , we also want to try to give every effort to get a deal done, so when a company has needed additional time, we have spoken with innovators to try to get that approved.

Good afternoon. Just wanted to give a quick update after yesteray's presentation, as well as just getting off of a follow-call with the project manager at SBD.

The overall feedback yesterday was best summed up in this message:

"There are a lot of good submissions in here. From the discussion, we could see a few of these as appropriate for our other brands too (Stanley, DEWALT)

Specifically, there are 18 of these ideas that we would like to position to our core team as well as three licensees."

We just spoke about next steps to fine tune the results of yesterday's presentation. Basically the group was team members that are innovation team and product developers. What they will do next is they have CORE teams for each area, as well as licencees for select product categories, that they will now be internally pitching the 18 concepts to. Some will be pitched internally (CORE) while others will be shared with their licencees for that specific product category. At the present time there will not be prototype requests until after this next pitch process to CORE and licencees. If interest remains post those discussions, than we will begin to approach about prototype availability.

The EN team is going to take a few days to develop some additional pitch packets for them to use with each of their licencees and they will begin discussions over the next week.

For the concepts that are not being considered further, we will begin to update dashboards over the upcoming days, as they also are working on providing additional recaps of feedback bullet point to provide innovators.

They commented how the presentation wasll full of good ideas, appreciated the opportunity to review and learn more about them, andd many simply weren't good fit with current objectives, category growth plans, etc. but felt very positive about the experience and what the EN community offered up.

Best of luck to those whose concepts are amongst the narrowed down field of 18.

Hey guys, when do you think is the latest that we would get an update on where SBD stands on the concepts they are looking at?

Are they required to update EN on their progress by day 45 following the presentation?

Thanks

posted    Report this post
sgdromms's Avataren_staff_badge

Loren -

The intent is always to continue to work with every partner to help them through the review process. With SBD, some are being looked at internally by their core team, and others are being shown to manufacturing licensing partners of theirs (in respective product category where they license out the SBD brand names).

This adds some layers to the on-going meetings/presentations.

A general comment we will always make is that every innovator agreement has the 6 month window in it from G7 stage. We always strive to be quicker than that, and many times items will be dropped/move forward within a 45-60 day window...but if it takes 6 months to get a deal done, than sometimes it takes 6 months.

Michelle Sartori

Absolutely give them ALL the time they need.

I was really just curious if the 45 day term was written into the agreement between EN and SBD.  I had read in the Life After G8 blog, that EN and sponsor usually agree to have an update within 45 days.  Didn’t know if it was Standard or not.

If it takes 6 months, it takes 6 months - no problem there.

Thanks for the response Scott, I know you guys are busy.
