I guess my question would be "is there a need in one area more than another", like kitchen vs. bedroom vs. bath?

This search is probably to broad for me to find "a" solution...  But once the wheels start turning, you never know.

Great post Michelle. This really helps. I sent in my new idea yesterday to a different search, glad I did. Funny, on the Cable Organizer I thought about that last night and whalla - here it is!  Go figure - love the Thread Stax - cool.  Does anyone see any value in things that involve Kids?  Or brings families together to better manage thier home chores?  Im wondering.....or are these trends primarily targeted toward adults?

Quiet here so thought I'd provide this thread a little bump.  Even if it does feel a little like walking into a dark room and worrying about stubbing my toe.  I'm only at G3, so I know there's gotta be a lot of furniture in here.  Hope it's not a surprise party.

We are currently working with the BBB and Time Inc. teams to finalize presentation timing. As soon as that is confirmed, we'll be updating you here.

Just thinking how much open innovation companies must love the EN business model.

28 fully vetted concepts, no weeding through random concepts, no worry about uniqueness and patent ability.

If they pick just a few it is a bump to there business in sales (could be millions) awareness (real simple magazine) and new pipeline to grow there line. Win, Win, Win!

Good luck everyone, I love the fact that I now know that my idea is unique, appeals to a mass market and is potentially patent-able no matter what happens.

Not bad for 20 bucks, thanks EN for what you do, Have a Great meeting!

Sorry to hear Jim. I'm going to opt mine into EN's "All Category" search - feedback was pretty encouraging - like you I got that my concepts are not a fit for this company *at this time*, which even leaves the possibility that it might be a fit for BBB at another time.

Best of luck!

Hello to all,

We've received the following statement from the Bed Bath and Beyond Brand Manager with respect to the remaining items in this search:

"The buying team had a chance to regroup on this project. At this stage they have determined to pass on all items submitted. They just did not find anything that would they felt would be right to add to their assortment."

We will be updating Dashboards for all remaining finalists shortly.

Remember, anyone who is a finalist that has not opted their idea into the All Category Search should consider doing so to expand the potential licensing exposure for their concepts.

Thank you again for all those who participated in this search.

Rosa - I can attest that my submission feedback for this search (even though they declined my product concepts) was orders of magnitude better than I've ever received trying to approach a company on my own.

Not to mention that some companies (like Apothecary Products) don't even take unsolicited product submissions but WILL work with us via EN:

Christy - I believe if you are not a member you get general feedback if you get an R8 (a declined finalist concept) but personalized feedback if you are an Insider.

Rosa - Many searches also end in licensing deals and I don't consider failure being an individuals innovation having the opportunity to be reviewed by a company that is actively looking for innovation.

What it means is that the active company did not find an innovation that exactly met their needs/desires at the time from the innovations that were made available to them.

I think anyone that has been in the innovation and product development space for a period of time will quickly agree that there are few overnight success stories, and the reality is it is often the stars aligning with the right idea, at the right time, with the right company sshowing interest to the point that they see the investment required to bring that product to market, as one in which they can achieve a reasonable return on their investment to produce and market.

We have many times where sponsors didn't find the exact innovation that fit at the time, but they have re-run searches based upon the fact that they felt the process was worthwhile and will eventually find that exact innovation they need.

Hope this helps and provides some insight.

Rosa - I have no idea other than the highly competitive and cyclical nature of big-name retail product development. Par for the course I think. This is the reality of this market space - high risk and (hopefully) high-reward.

I'm an inventor, not a licensing or marketing/sales expert - I appreciate that EN gives me an edge (though not a guarantee) and can get my ideas in front of companies big and small for an attentive evaluation of my inventions, no matter what the ultimate outcome.

I posted my response before I saw that Scott had already replied but agree that "failure" is not really the right word for when an individual inventor's idea(s) (or even *all* finalists' ideas) are declined after a company presentation.

When I get an R8 (i.e., idea declined at/after presentation - and I've gotten a LOT of them) I honestly view it as an "incremental success" - I'm hopefully iterating towards a licensing deal at some point in the future, maybe with that company, or another company, or even on my own. If not, at least I've given it a good honest shot and proceeded with integrity in accord with my calling as an inventor.

Ditto what Robert said... I would just add that another possibility is that the product simply is NOT perceived to be deemed viable for the marketplace.. in which case, I'm glad I did not put too many resources (time and mainly cash) into pursuing a product that was not viable. I'm then only out $25 (from my standpoint at least).

Best to all!

@K J - agreed - I think we all know people who have mortgaged their house to get a patent, fund product development, tooling, produce inventory, get distribution, etc., only to find out their idea was never marketable/viable in the first place.

@Michael - yep - as Jim also said, it's "win, win, win" because the sponsor gets to see those fully-vetted and concepts AND the inventor gets a lot of expert review for their $20: "I love the fact that I now know that my idea is unique, appeals to a mass market and is potentially patent-able no matter what happens. Not bad for 20 bucks..."

Michael, to address your concerns, if you feel that this concept has been subject to an infringement, please follow the terms of our process and we'd be happy to review further.

Thank you.

Dear Michael,

The process, as previously outlined, is as follows for any product concept that has infringement concerns:

If you have infringement concerns around an idea you submitted, please send an email to questions@edisonnation.com outlining the details of your submission and a link of the existing product. We'll review within 24-48 business hours and respond back via email.

I have done a review on the knife product you have cited and will send you a separate email communication on the history of the product as we do not discuss ideas specifically within our forums.

Regarding your "Hook-its" product, we have provided you regular communications and updates on the idea via email. The last email you received was from Scott on 12/8. As we have additional updates, we'll continue to communicate with you via email as we have done regularly since the incident was reported.

Thank you and I wish you and your family a happy holiday.

Dear Michael,

As we've outlined in our email communications, Scott has been in contact with the company in question and has been working to connect with them to get some additional information. The team here and representatives of the company in question are taking the matter seriously and investigating. We have been keeping you in loop every time we have an update.

We do not outline any details of issues that may result in further legal investigations or actions for the protection of the innovator and their confidentiality.

Once again, I wholeheartedly apologize for the delays that were in our control and we're doing our best to handle those delays that are outside our control. We'll continue to keep you updated once teams return following the holidays.

Again, this is a matter under review. We are providing you with updates as per our process and we'll close the loop within these forums as soon as the matter is resolved. Believe me, no one wants this to be completed more than our team.

Thank you for your ongoing patience and we wish you and yours a very happy holiday.
