Here’s my Dad (retired Air Force) in Vietnam circa 1965 - Sơn Trà Mountain (“Monkey Mountain”) near Da Nang:

Now that's a crease!

And a fine polish too.

Thank you for your service Mr. Pontius.

Thank you to all of our Veterans ... Here is a picture of my Dad.  Yes, he is the one who always got in trouble for wearing his hat at the wrong angle and for not wearing a tie in uniform...can ya guess which one he is in the photo? LOL...I love you Dad, RIP.

If you're able, check out Nat Geo's excellent "The Long Road Home" which premiered last week (my sister-in-law did the special effects makeup for the series):

Kathleen:

That's your Dad driving the vehicle?

I think my Dad also had "hat issues" - the one he's wearing in the picture above (and below) is a "Boonie Hat" which wasn't issued by the military until 1967 but I think he bought one locally in 1965 and I'm guessing a bunch of other soldiers did too because it was so much more practical for the climate.

Yes, my Dad is the one driving...though, as you can see it was a posed picture with a painted background. LOL.  I love that picture of your Dad, a very handsome fella!

I wondered about that background - assumed it was added to the photo afterwards. So the whole thing was a "set"?

I  guess it was  Robert. I never noticed the background until I downloaded it onto my computer. If I had noticed it while he was still with me, I would have asked him about it.

Kathleen:

I'm guessing they had a steering wheel or maybe even a whole jeep in front of a painted backdrop - probably a lot safer and more picturesque than outside!

My Dad had this picture taken in wartime (~1965) after buying a new suit locally from a Vietnamese tailor. It looks like something right out of "Mad Men" (he quit smoking after the war):
