Founded in 2000, Intellectual Ventures creates an efficient and dynamic invention economy by combining capitalism and invention to benefit the world with more innovations, and creating financial rewards for its investors.

Intellectual Ventures generates timely “invention topics” that define critical areas where innovation is needed on a national and global level.

Edison Nation has partnered with Intellectual Ventures for their current invention topic requesting new solution-based ideas related to airborne pollution control, particularly for filtration technologies that eliminate chemicals and infectious agents in confined spaces.

Ensuring air quality is a daunting task, particularly in rapidly developing areas, where growing manufacturing and mining output, rising urban populations and the construction of numerous new power plants and waste incinerators take a toll. The occurrence of airborne infectious agents, such as severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) and the H1N1 outbreak of 2009 provide a fresh warning that these pandemic threats continue to flourish.

Filtration technologies, which eliminate the airborne spread of infectious agents, are an area of significant interest for public safety. They are frequently being implemented in homes, businesses, communities and transportation systems to reduce the health risks associated with naturally occurring, as well as man-made chemical pollutants that originate with a range of consumer products.

While filtration solutions already exist and are being implemented, their efficiency, performance and cost do not always satisfy the rapidly growing consumer demand for ways to improve air quality.

Intellectual Ventures seeks your new ideas for filtration technologies and other methods to control airborne pollution and eliminate chemicals and infectious agents in confined spaces.

Intellectual Ventures is specifically seeking patentable ideas, rather than already patented innovations. Novel air purification solutions will have one or more of the following characteristics:

• Multifunctional and versatile in eliminating a variety of airborne toxins
• Portable and deployable with short notice
• Simple construction and cost effective

Innovations may include, but are not limited to, the following areas:

• Personal protection devices against infectious diseases at confined spaces in public
• Novel air purification concepts
• Novel integrated air purification systems
• Miniaturized sensors for real-time air quality monitoring

We encourage you to submit a visual representation of your product (i.e., sketch or photo). While not required, we highly encourage you to submit video of yourself demonstrating a prototype and explaining the features and benefits of your submission. Please be as detailed as possible in telling us about your innovation. As always, your submission must be unique and protectable.

Because Intellectual Ventures is seeking “enabled ideas,” or ideas that are valid because they could be feasibly developed utilizing known development methodologies, submissions most likely to be successful will provide details regarding possible components of the innovation and/or how it would be put together in a working manner.

Each idea costs just $25 ($20 for gold members) to submit and, as long as you maintain gold membership, your idea may be submitted to as many searches as you would like at no additional cost. This fee covers Edison Nation’s product screening process. Click here for more details on Live Product Searches.
